The Fire Gate

Somewhere deep in the territory owned and controlled by the Assassin's Guild, hidden from the outside world, there dwells a gigantic chasm. A circular hole in the earth that yields a drop straight down untold fathoms into the very ground. At the heart of this pit the size in diameter of a small lake, an ominous reddish-white light filters forth, and with it, a ventilated draft of hot air and the smell of ash. Nobody knows truly what the bottom of the pit looks like, the light is too bright to make anything out. Nobody who has entered the pit, whether in a purposeful attempt to descend or by the misfortune of slipping in, has ever returned. This if the Fire Gate. A descent into the earth that eventually gives way to the opening to the Realm of Fire. The sheer heat exiting the gate from the other side would incinerate anyone in seconds simply standing at it's edge if it wasn't for the almost half a mile tunnel of rock that ascended upwards, allowing the ventilated heat to cool just enough to be uncomfortable to confront, but not lethal. The origins of flame emerge from here, warming the area and indeed the rest of the planet.

- Some planar researchers theorize if the Fire Gate exists close to the core of the Material Realm where geothermal tempuratures are most intense.
