The Council of Great Sages
The council that leads Yorn and speaks on behalf of all the tribes of Riverlant and even some in Grotague. Bridge the gaps between not just the tribes, but Yorn and the wider world as well with wisdom and care.
Deep within the swamp lands of Yorn, where mist weaves through ancient mangroves and the waters whisper secrets of the ages, resides the Council of Great Sages. This esteemed body of shamans and sages is revered as the ultimate authority among the tribes scattered throughout the region. United by their shared knowledge, spiritual insight, and mystical abilities, the Council serves as guides, mediators, and protectors of the delicate balance between the tribes, the swamp, and the unseen forces that govern their world. Many old visitors and scholars from abroad found that the various communities and cultures of Yorn are far too complex and distinct, not to mention numerous, to deal with on an individual level. Interaction was mainly handled through a collection of shamans from some of the largest tribes and those who spoke the common language. These sages bridged the gap between Yorn and Eren, who mainly interacted with southern Yorn during this time. These sages came to become representatives for Yorn, responsible for communicating with their tribe and their neighbors and speaking on behalf as de-facto advocates. While the Council holds great influence, they are not rulers in the traditional sense. Their authority comes from respect and trust, and their ability to make decisions functions only so far as representing the whims and ideals of their respective tribes and factions. The Council allows tribes to govern themselves in day-to-day matters, stepping in only when unity or balance is at risk. In times of great peril—such as invasions by hostile forces or natural disasters—the Council has the authority to unite the tribes under a single banner for mutual defense.
The Council resides in a sacred house known as the Kodakiri, or "The Tall House." It is a large home that stands within The Circle, made of terracotta and reinforced lumber. The serving members of the Council typically live out of this home for a week, discussing, planning, and sharing thoughts and edicts before returning to their homes, carrying news and new developments back with them.
The Council acts as a guiding force for the tribes, offering wisdom in times of conflict and uncertainty. Tribal disagreements over territory, resources, or traditions are brought before the Council, which mediates with fairness and insight. Tribal chieftains and elders seek the Council’s guidance on matters of strategy, diplomacy, and survival, trusting in their centuries of accumulated knowledge. The Council ensures that the tribes honor their ancestors and the swamp’s ancient customs, maintaining the cultural identity of Yorn. Included in all of this is the added responsibility of serving as the liaison and leading representative on the international stage on behalf of Yorn. Their voices are the ones that speak for the many out of Yorn in an official capacity.
The Council of Great Sages is more than a governing body; it is the soul of Yorn, embodying the wisdom, resilience, and spirituality of the swamp’s people. Through their guidance, the tribes of Yorn have endured countless trials, maintaining their way of life in harmony with the swamp’s beauty and danger. To the people of Yorn, the Council represents hope, unity, and the enduring power of wisdom in a world of chaos.
