Goblin
Goblins are small-statured humanoids with distinctive large, slender ears and skin tones ranging from vibrant greens to cool blues. They have fully embraced a subterranean lifestyle, living in the depths of Zul within highly social, intricate warrens carved into the earth. These bustling communities are interconnected networks of tunnels and chambers, reflecting their communal nature and strong interdependence. Goblins have a unique view of personal property, often seeing it as a fluid concept. Possessions are frequently shared or traded within their communities, fostering a culture of resourcefulness and cooperation. Their creativity and ingenuity are among their most notable traits, with goblins displaying exceptional skill in designing and crafting complex mechanisms. They excel in creating elaborate devices, traps, and tools, often combining practicality with a flair for the unexpected.
History
For centuries, goblins lived peacefully underground in Zul, crafting intricate warrens that served as both homes and communities. These interconnected webs of tunnels and chambers reflected their resourceful and cooperative nature, allowing them to thrive in harmony with the subterranean environment. Conflict arose when the dwarves, seeking refuge from dragon attacks, began to dig deeper into the earth. As the dwarves expanded their underground citadels, their paths crossed with goblin warrens, creating friction between the two races. What began as incidental encounters quickly escalated into a full-blown rivalry. The dwarves, proud of their structured society and craftsmanship, dismissed goblins as pests, accusing them of burrowing into dwarven halls and disrupting their work. The goblins, however, fiercely defended their claim to the underground, arguing that they had lived in those spaces for generations before the dwarves delved deeper. This clash of perspectives led to an enduring animosity. The dwarves viewed goblins as chaotic and invasive, while goblins saw the dwarves as overbearing intruders encroaching on their ancestral homes. Despite their rivalry, the two races have continued to coexist in Zul’s depths, their shared space marked by a complex mix of competition, grudging respect, and mutual disdain.Geography
Goblins live throughout Zul's underground dens and warrens, contesting territory with the Dwarves and Dark Elves. It isn't unheard of for goblins seeking new opportunities for work or perhaps even just becoming enamored with other places they've heard of or visited to migrate to those areas, especially places like Eren, where their craftsmanship can flourish, and Suna, where their small stature makes them well fitted to life aboard crowded ships.Relations & Society
Many goblins are naturally shy, choosing to stay within the confines of the dark, or the back of a crowd where they are comfortably away from unfamiliar eyes. Outside of their own community and even abroad, goblins have unfortunately developed a reputation as being weak, meek, ugly, and bizarre, and they receive ridicule or morbid fascination from those who refer to them. This is mostly fueled by rumormongering and the sheer rarity of goblins outside the subterranean abyss of Zul. Those who surpass these harmful archetypes find goblins make creative and spirited acquaintences.
