Shew grew up fascinated with the natural world and developed a strong desire to understand it. She was a very studious and focused child and young lady, which made social interaction not key. She invited to join the Royal Fraternity for Scientific Minds in Avalon, but found that she was rarely taken seriously. So one cold morning, she set fire to all of her female clothes in the courtyard of the university after cutting her hair short, saying that it would make things easier on her colleagues if she dressed as a man from then on, and she has (her hair was allowed to grow back. She is a skilled boxer and equestrian.
