Mangrove Base
Here, huts and shelters and longhouses of wood and hide stretch between the massive trees and sit on poles sunk into the shallow water. Locals go from place to place on rope bridges and walkways stretched between them. The whole city hovers above the briny water, ospreys flitting from tree to tree above. It was the perfect place for Mawons to hide and plot their revenge upon the Company. The fishing is some of the best on the island, with clams, shrimp, and snails particularly numerous amongst the trees’ snaky roots; you can eat something different every day of the week, even if you never leave the Base.
