The Heirarchy of the Dae

In the shadowy corners of the world of Selenia, the Dae—commonly referred to as demons—exist in various forms and hierarchies. Each class of Dae embodies different aspects of darkness, from the cunning Lesser Dae that lurk in alleyways to the powerful Aybssi Dominus, who schemes from the depths of the Under-Sanctuary. This article explores the distinct types of Dae, their characteristics, abilities, and roles within the realm. This excludes undead as they not considered Dae, but are often used as tools of the Dae.

Lesser Dae, Infernal Scirpi(Dae Minor)

Lesser Dae, or Infernal Scirpi, are the smallest and most fiendish entities in the hierarchy of demons. These malevolent beings typically inhabit the darkened alleys of small towns, preying on the unsuspecting, weak, and often lost souls who leave themselves open to such attacks. If the mind is open and weak these creatures will find you as easy prey.   Characteristics   Physical Appearance: Infernal Scirpi often have grotesque and diminutive forms, featuring sharp teeth, claw-like hands, and glowing eyes that pierce through the darkness. Their bodies may appear warped and twisted, reflecting their otherworldly origins.   Behavior: These creatures are known for their cunning and stealth. They thrive on mischief and minor malevolence, delighting in instilling fear and chaos within vulnerable communities.   Abilities   While Lesser Dae are deadly, their powers are limited compared to their higher-ranking counterparts. They possess abilities such as:   Shadow Manipulation: They can blend into shadows, becoming nearly invisible in dimly lit areas.   Minor Illusion Spells: They can create small illusions to confuse or frighten their victims.   Cohersion and Complusion: They can compel the weak minded to do things they normally would not do, after time before you even know you are being puppeted to do their bidding.   Habitat   Lesser Dae can exist outside the Under-Sanctuary, thriving in the shadows of the mortal realm. They have always existed in darkness, making their home in the hidden recesses of towns where fear reigns. These demons foster fear and paranoia, often leading to hysteria and distrust among townsfolk. Their presence can erode the fabric of communities, creating a breeding ground for further darkness.

Middle Dae, Maleficae (Dae Mediocris)

Middle Dae, or Maleficae, represent a more dangerous breed of demons, striving for power and capable of inflicting significant damage on the world around them. They are also capable of shifting forms to those of that inhabit the world with some playing out long term plans to enact their goals. They can as well command the Infernal Scirpi and often use them as underlings, providing them a layer of safety and portection.   Characteristics   Physical Appearance: Maleficae are larger and more menacing than their Lesser counterparts. They often exhibit more formidable features, such as twisted limbs, darkened skin, and a grotesque elegance that reflects their corrupted nature.   Ambition: Driven by a relentless pursuit of power, these demons target key locations and influential individuals, seeking to sow discord and destruction.   Abilities   Middle Dae possess larger-scale destructive magic, including:   Summoning Storms: They can call forth tempests that ravage landscapes and cause widespread panic.   Blight Spells: They can induce decay in living things, causing crops to wither and wildlife to perish.   Shape-Shifting: Maleficae can transform into human forms, allowing them to blend in with mortals. This ability makes them particularly dangerous, as they can seduce and manipulate individuals to achieve their goals, often using charm and allure to ensnare their victims.   Habitat   Maleficae manipulate their environments, gradually eating away at the vitality of the world. Their influence can lead to the slow but sure degradation of entire regions, turning vibrant areas into lifeless wastelands. These demons act as antagonists, orchestrating chaos and undermining communities from within. Their seductive nature allows them to infiltrate social circles, manipulating mortals into carrying out their nefarious plans. This ability to masquerade as trusted allies makes them a significant threat to the stability of Selenia and Islands.

Upper Dae. Aybssi Dominus (Abyssal Lords)

At the pinnacle of the Dae hierarchy lie the Aybssi Dominus, or Abyssal Lords. These true demons embody the highest tier of malevolence, driven by their ambitions and bound by the rules of the Under-Sanctuary. Some seek to escape the under sanctuary and rule over the middle, a few wish to overthrow and usurp the gods themselves. Some even consume other Abyssi to gain power.

Characteristics   Physical Appearance: Aybssi Dominus are grand and terrifying figures, often adorned with regal yet horrifying features, such as imposing horns, massive wings, and glowing symbols of their power.   Motivations: These demons seek control and manipulation of the mortal realm, desiring to reshape it according to their will.   Abilities   Possessing immense power, Aybssi Dominus can:   Manipulate Reality: They can alter the fabric of existence, creating illusions or bending the laws of nature.   Summon Lesser Dae: They can command Lesser Dae to do their bidding, unleashing them upon the world as agents of chaos.   Restrictions   Despite their power, the Aybssi Dominus are bound by the decrees of Lord Hermes of Canterberry. This divine ruler maintains order within the Under-Sanctuary and prevents the Abyssal Lords from leaving its confines, thus limiting their direct influence on the mortal realm.   Role in Society   The presence of Aybssi Dominus is often felt through cults and dark rituals conducted by mortals seeking favor or power. Their influence can lead to widespread corruption and turmoil, as they entice the ambitious with promises of power in exchange for servitude.
