The Council of Elders

Not all who dwell in Mothalsia are bound to a Fey Court or possess elemental magic. Some exist simply as manifestations of the land’s untamed, wild magic, shaped by the ever-shifting energies that flow through its forests, rivers, and skies.

To maintain balance and order in this unpredictable realm, the Council of Elders stands as Mothalsia’s highest governing body. This council is composed of representatives from each Fey Court, as well as Elves, Spirits, Wild Beasts, and unseen Fey that exist beyond the mortal eye. Together, they craft and uphold the laws that ensure harmony across the land. Their meetings take place in the Hollow of Seasons, a sacred and timeless gathering place where the very fabric of Mothalsia listens.

The Hollow of Seasons—A Place of Binding Oaths

No falsehood can be uttered within the Hollow, for it is bound by ancient magic that compels truth and honor. To swear an oath here is to be bound by the will of the land itself, and those who break such a vow suffer dire consequences—some wither as if the weight of countless seasons has fallen upon them, aging decades in mere moments, while others vanish entirely, lost to the Hollow’s depths, never to return.

Settling Disputes & Enforcing Law

Disputes, whether between individuals, courts, or wild entities, are brought before the Council of Elders, who serve as the final arbiters of justice. Minor conflicts may be resolved through mediation, but serious offenses—such as betrayal of the land’s sacred laws—demand trial within the Hollow of Seasons. Punishments vary, shaped by the crime itself: a thief may find their hands unable to grasp, a liar may lose their voice, and those who commit great treachery risk banishment into the Veil, an existence neither living nor dead.

However, the Council is not without mercy. In some cases, those who have strayed from the path may undertake The Warden’s Oath—a sacred geas that binds them to a period of service, often as protectors of Mothalsia’s most fragile places. Through this trial, they may reclaim their honor, though the burden of their past may never fully fade.

Each law, each judgment, and each oath sworn within the Hollow of Seasons is more than mere words—it is a pact with Mothalsia itself, an agreement witnessed by the land’s eternal magic
