Lightstone Lantern

The lightstone lantern is an ancient invention that is still very relevant today. The lantern is made of a small wooden base with a metal dish upon it, with gem fasteners held above and slightly to the side of the dish by thin metal rods. A cut lightstone can be inserted into the fasteners, allowing the stone to be suspended a few inches away from the metal dish. The cut lightstone will reflect and amplify any light that touches it, creating a beautiful rainbow-tinted glow. A small cetuswax candle can be placed in the metal dish if there are no other light sources around, or if the available light is not bright enough for the lightstone to amplify effectively.
Styles of lightstone lantern range from a mundane block of wood and tin dish to ornate glass and wire varieties. Some may have handles or be attached to a wall like a sconce. Due to the high value of lightstone gems, lightstone lanterns are much more common than the lightstones themselves. Many are simply used as conventional candle lanterns, sometimes seen with glass flues.
