Writs of the Versian Binderate

Writ of Entry

  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Bound to: Individual (Document)
Under a previous Law, Writs of Entry were common and closer to that of the current Krasian Meritocracy’s Entry Writs. However, the Law prior to the current Law declared all Writs invalid and void. Her push to regain the “ideals of the Versia” conflicted with their open borders as she blamed the free trade and access of the other two governments for the diluting of their core belief. Writs are now given to an Individual instead of a ship and are very temporary, typically only allowing 15-30GS days or Exiting the Bound Borders. An individual will need to prove that they have a valid purpose inside of the Bound Borders and pay the fairly costly entry fee. Even if an individual is granted access into the Bound Borders, it is unlikely that their ship will be without going through a Trial similar to that of the Writ of Citizenship.   A great trade and monetary influx for the Bound Borders are the passenger ships which ferry individuals with Writs of Entry from the Borders to a specific planet or station. The shipyards of the ships awaiting their crew’s return can be protected by the Gavels for a free, but any ships with crew remaining often find themselves floating in The Mercurius Docks, the massive collection of ships awaiting notice from their crew mates in the void just outside of the Bound Borders. The piracy problem this has created offers a great career in ship protection for up and coming mercenary crews.

Proof of Purpose

  • Rarity: Rare
  • Bound to: Ship (Navigation Locked)
Now, a secondary unique Writ tied to a ship’s communication systems, the “Proof of Purpose” is required for a ship to be permitted entry past the Border systems. Should a Proof of Purpose not be broadcast on any non-Versian ship inside of the Bound Borders, the ship will be quickly destroyed. The ability to bring a ship into Versian space, which has fallen into mystery in the last two generations, has become an obsession and fault of many intrepid explorers, traders, and curious captain.

Writ of Trade

  • Rarity: Rare (External) / Common (Internal)
  • Bound to: Individual (DNA Locked)
Though Writs of Trade are common amongst Versian planets and systems, Writs of Trade are almost never offered to individuals outside of Versia. The rare cases that even a Versian ship is permitted to trade outside of Versian space are only given by the Law only since the Closure. The Writs are DNA locked, typically requiring renewal on death (though cases of family members continuing to trade with the Writs of their parents are known and permitted). The rarity of the Writ itself is interestingly matched only by the ambiguity it gives when given. The writs are fantastically broad and allow free trade from within and without the systems, only increasing the amount of trust required from the Law to obtain one.

Writ of Armaments

  • Rarity: Common
  • Bound to: Individual (Writ of Entry)
The strength and fear of the Gavels has lended the Bound Borders with an arrogance in regards to weaponry. Though explosive and energy weaponry is typically scrutinized, the Writ of Entry typically permits a level of personal weaponry. However, the reliance of the locals on the Gavels has led to a society where openly carried weaponry is actually viewed with a disgust as it shows a sign of distrust in their protectors. Someone carrying unconcealed weaponry is treated like they are carrying a rocket launcher into a bar fight, both in the overkill, lack of necessity, and cowardice inherent in it.

Writ of Citizenship

  • Rarity: Common (Born) / Rare (Immigration)
  • Bound to: Individual (DNA/Document/ID)
The focus of the Versians on family, tradition, and mutual protection has led to a fairly lack Citizenship system. Anyone born in the Bound Borders who has not been found in breach of the Law carries with them an inherent right of Citizenship. However, anyone who has breached the Law, been found in unpurged dishonor, or stained their citizenship are often expelled from the Bound Borders soon after. Immigration into the Bound Borders is almost as rare as obtaining a Proof of Purpose. The series of trials involved in gaining citizenship are often enough of a deterrent for refugees and exiles, especially with their vague demands for proof of Honor, Duty, and Selflessness.

Writ of Protection

  • Rarity: Inherent
  • Bound to: Individual (Citizenship or Entry)
To be allowed into the Bound Borders and not in Breach of the Law comes with the benefit of being in the protection of the Gavels. The inherent protection from the fiercely effective Gavels is no small part in why high-class businessmen, dignitaries, and even well-secreted criminal leaders find themselves conducting deals inside of the Bound Borders. Even if they lose the protection of their own ship, having the Gavels standing by to defend or kill anyone stepping out of line has ensured many a negotiation has gone smoothly.
