The Magmardan Coalition
Following the destruction of Tharsis and subsequent dissolution of the Magmarda sector into Necrophyte and Rada territory, the remaining people of the magmarda sector who survived were left without a home. Most who survived were in the Alliance Military, and took the military as their new home. Once the war ended, however, they were once again left isolated, with nowhere to go. Some settled down in the Alliance or neutral space, but a few magmardans who had gathered significant resources (such as corporation owners and high-end military officials) set up an organisation that adhered to their martial traditions: the Magmardan Coalition.
Structure
The Coalition is a fleet-based community primarily of mercenaries, but also includes supply ships, food production, engineering vessels and even mobile schools. These vessels are organised into fleets, with the ship captains being responsible for those who live on their ship. Admirals keep watch over the various captains, and the Admirals' council functions as the overarching governing body of the Magmardan Coalition.
Public Agenda
The Coalition seeks to continue the traditions of their lost homeland, those being a strong fast moving military and an utter dedication to one's kin. They believe that hardship is good for growth, but this must be tempered with support as well. Each person in the Coalition must earn his way and contribute to the efforts of the others, but the person is free to choose what his role is.
They some day plan to put a claim to their former homeworld of Tharsis as an independent colony, but the chemically toxic environment and scale of the required cleanup operation has prohibited this significantly.
Assets
The Coalition comprises around 500,000 people in total, who are roughly split into 15 different fleets currently. Most of the vessels designated for civillian use typically have more than one function; for exaple, most housing vessels also contain offices and administrative centres for use in admin, many supply ships also have cultivation areas for growing crops, and so on.
The Coalition's main export, however, is their military assets. Comprising of carrier groups that can be hired out to those with enough credits to pay for them, Coalition battlegroups are regarded as perhaps the largest and most professional large scale mercenary force in the galaxy. However, they choose their contracts carefully, and do not typically come under the employ of criminal groups or pirates, instead preferring to act as an addition to planetary defence force or as a stabilising factor in small scale conflicts or civil wars.
Much of their equipment is not as high standard as that of the main empires of the galaxy, and much of it is well-used and often second hand, but is still highly effective and useful in the right hands.
History
The Coalition was officially founded in 2300, and comprised of only a few military and civillian vessels, and around 60,000 people. Over time, more ships were purchased, repurposed or traded in, and more people came to the coalition to reclaim their cultural identity or to join a new one. After some key peacekeeping contracts, knowledge of the Coalition spread further and further, and some captains willingly joined the fleets.
By 2342, their population had reached 500,000 and their reputation was secure.
