Marvost Federation
The Marvost Federation is the governing body of Marvost, which is a planet with a number of semi-independent city-states that came together after the liberation of the planet from the Gartax.
Being a terraformed planet, Marvost's atmosphere is relatively thin, so most cities are underground or within mountains to shield themselves from the system's star. Travel between each city can be challenging, so each one has a vast planetary net connected via massive underground cables, made from the planet's ample copper reserves. Even so, each city is unique in it's own right, with wildly varying customs, ideals and even certain laws from each city, each of which also owns a patch of land above or around it.
The representatives that make up the federation each gather in each other's cities with the host city changing yearly, with the largest city, Yaron, serving as a de-facto planetary capital by offworlders, having been built upon the old Gratax capital of the world.
While there has been no open conflict between the city-states for some time, this was not always so. During the 1990s, many skirmishes would occur between various city-states to try and gain dominion over one another, but these conflicts died down quickly after the Representatives brokered peace, and the world's focus went towards uniting against their enemies.
The Federation hosts a population of around 900 million on Marvost itself, while another 2 million live in artificial habitats and space stations throughout the planetary system. The population is supported by a large number of automated drones completing most menial tasks, which mean that, despite the relatively harsh conditions, Marvostians live relatively easy lives, though food and water can be very scarce and is often imported from offworld.
