Known Backstory

Zelroth was a strange child, much to his noble parents disappointment. He was gentle, kind, and chaotic, taking more after his wizard uncle than his father. Around age 10, Zelroth began talking to the family cat - Susan. His parents thought very little of it - he was a strange boy after all. But Susan was more than a mere cat. Susan had been possessed by the fallen diety - The Hexblade. Susan made a pact with Zelroth - that he'd get dope sword power and in exchange, Zelroth would defend Susan's frail form. Zelroth agreed - being a young boy, who wouldn't want dope sword powers? And after all, Zelroth loved Susan, and wanted to protect her as much as possible.
Susan warned Zelroth - that another diety had wanted to kill her, and had found their family home. So to protect his family and his cat, Zelroth left home around age 13, and took to the roads, so that he may never be caught. Over the years, he took many odd adventuring jobs, and found himself involved with several criminal organizations. He wanted to be rich and powerful enough that he could build a castle that would defend his cat from otherworldly threats, and himself from the long arm of the law.

High Magic vs Low Magic

The debate is meaningless to Zelroth - any power that defends his cat is a power for good.
