Classes of the World

Wizards

Wizards are people who have gone through formal training for magic. In modern days that mostly means graduating from a magic college, though some old-fashioned apprenticeships do happen. Typically when starting off they use exclusively low magic as it is easier to understand and use as a teaching tool, but over time and study, they will almost always within formal schools adopt it to become high magic as they progress in their individual studies. It is generally expected that when you graduate you will use high magic.

Warlocks

Warlocks derive their magic from a pact with a creature that exists physically on this planet. They are vessels for their Patron’s wishes and do what they are asked from their Patron. The type of magic they learn is entirely dependent on their patron. There are very few beings in existence strong enough to fully power a warlock.

Sorcerers

Sorcerers are extremely rare. Most individuals do not know of their existence. To be born able to do their magic without extensive training has become not much but a myth of power individuals in the past. If any exist now one would assume they would get lumped in with another class and treated as such and ultimately not believed. Which magic they use is unknown to most since the source of their magic is not known and not well studied.

Rogues

Rouges generally work under the law. While they come in all varieties on the spectrum from malevolent to benevolent, not associating with the powers in charge is what makes them rouges, and the ones who don't are usually covert in their missions for the power at large. Those that use magic almost entirely use low magic as that is what is usually available to them unless they specifically go out to train to make it high magic.

Rangers

Rangers are a natural evolution of the druid class as the world has become more populated and modernized. These are either individuals from original native people who have swayed from their druid teachings as they merged with other societies or non-native people who are on the fringes of society and learning about the druid ways. They often live on the outskirts of civilization and become a new breed of people who live on the land as hunters, guides, trackers, or even as druids and become defenders of preservation. Like Druids, many learn high magic in the old druid ways, but as they are not as bound can choose to do low magic.

Paladins

Paladins are holy warriors bound to an oath to a deity they believe in. Powered by their beliefs they swear to spread those beliefs across the land and recruit others to their cause. They often feel compelled to travel to where they think they are needed most and use both their powerful bodies and magics to fulfill whatever quest they believe in. Within the major Religion of the world, the vast majority of known paladins are perceived in society as good and protect those that they feel need it. However, there are paladins for all faiths that follow their own path. Almost universally paladins use high magic, and their faiths would not allow them to use low magic for anything.

Monks

Monks utilize the power of Ki to power their martial arts and physical prowess. Monks take years of study and meditation at temples to harness their Ki. Their physical and spiritual powers are inconceivable to average individuals as they seem to be bending what is possible with a corporeal form. For countless ages, people have debated where the source of Ki is from, and while different monasteries have different beliefs themselves, modern scholars believe that at least within the major practices it is a form of high magic.

Fighters

Fighters are trained combatants. Through either formal study at an institution or study under another powerful warrior, they equally use their mind, strength, and equipment to best others in fights and set themselves apart from other warriors. Champions of their people and potential masters of any combat style, they are amongst the most powerful of people. When fighters do learn magic, which types entirely depends on who they learn it from, and how they choose to use and pursue it. Most choose to learn it quickly and simply for an edge and use it as low magic, others may be following in the footsteps and traditions of formal training from others and pursue the full use of high magic.

Druids

Druids use the ways of the native people of this land. Originally made up entirely of people who lived subsistence lives on the land, their traditions have passed on to today. They work with the land, the plants, and the creatures that inhabit them to keep it as preserved as it originally was. Most magic from Druids is high magic passed on from elder to elder of the druids. Though they do utilize some low magic especially for the younger ones in their ranks. Though this is not consistent from native people groups to other native people groups.

Clerics

Clerics have a pull to believe in a deity and devote their entire lives to this deity. Driven by their will to become conduits for their chosen deity they spend their lifetimes studying to spread the word and teachings of their deity. In modern Religion many believe they are on the good side of society and use their powers to help others. Within these religions, low magic is almost always banned in their teachings. Though many small religions and deities exist.

Bards

Bards use the power of music and emotion to weave their magic. They can be either classically trained in formal schools and conservatories, or learn directly from another well-performed musician. Often they learn many other trades in their day-to-day journeys, but their magic comes directly from the music they create. The average musicians do not create magic, as it does take an intense amount of time and training or experimentation. The type of magic they produce is also directly tied to the instrument and style of play. Many classically trained musicians from conservatories produce high magic, while more folk and experimental music produce low magic.

Barbarians

Barbarians are simply the fiercest warriors. They typically find this role naturally by being the biggest and strongest around. Their brute strength and stamina prove effective even against the more formally trained warriors and magicians alike even in the modern era. They typically do not use magic in any form, and when they do it is usually not well understood.

Artificers

Artificers are the newest class in this world. They have really emerged as society has shifted from a subsistence style of living to an industrialized one. They are on the fringes of technology finding out new ways to use magic to push the boundaries of what people and inventions are capable of. With the advent of Low Magic Crystals becoming available to most people affordably, these tinkerers have been starting to emerge as a new force of change in society.
