Underworld Social Hierarchy
Within the towns and cities of the Underworld, the social structure tends to reflect a class-based structure similar to civilizations on other planes.
At the top sits the Archons, their rule rarely, if ever challenged. Ruling positions are only held by mortals in rare or extraneous circumstances.
Below them are the associates of Archons and the mortals that they favor. These tend to range from nobles to generals to interesting commoners, people with influence and knowledge that Archons can leverage.
Underneath them is the higher class of people who know how to navigate the tenuous politics of an Archon’s surrounding social court; that or they’re incredibly lucky. Most mortals however, can rise in power if they’re clever enough.
The lower and middle-class citizens are varied in ability and origin, and are usually filled with people that want nothing to do with Archons or ignore them, focused on living their lives or scraping by.
