Falling Stars

"At the breaking of dawn and the end of an age, the skies unleashed their fury and the stars fell like tears into the sea." -- Gaius Darkemoor

In the hundreds of years following the first Starfall, fiery stars would fall from the sky across the Two Lands at random. These falling stars, while infinitely smaller in scale, would still prove devastating if striking a settlement or fortress. When before starfalls had become scarcer, worryingly, sightings of starfalls have grown more frequent in the last hundred years.

Years if not decades still may pass in between smaller starfalls, all of which are considered terrible omens by the priests of the Estari, who interpret it as the wrath of the gods. However, throughout the numerous star cults that exist across the Two Lands, the falling of stars is heralded not as the wrath of gods, but celebrated as the coming of gods.

Manifestation

Flaming orbs of molten metal and rock, hurtling through the skies; they obliterate anything in their path. When a falling star appears, it shines as bright as the sun. The very air seems to be set aflame as they streak across the sky, leaving long trails of green, black, and red. This fiery appearance and destructive capability has led many to characterize falling stars as daemons in art and literature.

Localization

An extremely rare occurance, the sighting of a falling star is seldom reported from anywhere outside the Two Lands. The Estari believe that the star gods protect the lands of Althea, and the rest will be consumed in starry flames. This fundamentalist attitude has also formulated in a belief among some, especially foreigners, that the Two Lands are cursed.
