Power
Whisperer of Souls is a unique +4 life stealing and sentient adamantine glaive which hungers after souls. It acts in many ways as a Sword of Life-stealing, which means that it bestows a negative level when it deals a critical hit. The glaive wielder gains 4d6 temporary hit points each time a negative level is bestowed on another. These temporary hit points last for 24 hours. One day after being struck, subjects must succeed at a Fortitude save for each negative level gained or any such levels become permanent. However the DC to resist the life-stealing ability is currently DC28, but increases by a tenth of the number of souls it has absorbed. Additionally if Whisperer of souls slays a creature it consumes its soul gaining a permanent bonus to attack and damage equal to a tenth of the total amount of souls absorbed and giving the wielder a rush of euphoria affecting them as by a rage spell for ten rounds in which they cannot distinguish friend from foe and must lash out at the nearest target, prioritizing those which will further empower Whisperer of Souls.
Whisperer of Souls gives any non-evil wielder 2 temporary negative levels when carried in order to weaken their resolve against its influence. This affects them when the weapon is not in hand and even in an extradimensional space carried by them as the demon makes an insidious connection with its wielder.
History
The Goddess Shelyn bears this powerful glaive stolen from her brother Zon-Kuthon. Once, both Gods wielded it together until Zon-Kuthon stole it for his own devices.
The Whisperer of Souls is a powerful artifact that absorbs souls. Legends tell that if the glaive absorbs one hundred powerful souls, it will become a God in its own right and bring about an era of murder and death. When he took it, the weapon corrupted Zon-Kuthon and convinced him to go to war against the other deities. When Zon-Kuthon first received the weapon it held no souls. By the time Shelyn stole Whisperer of Souls it had almost all it needed.
In the time since, Shelyn has been able to free most of those souls thanks to the help of brave adventurers, as a grand quest of goodness must be performed to release a single soul. Much to the frustration of Whisperer of Souls, it is unable to corrupt Shelyn as it did her brother, earning her the title “the Incorruptible”.
When Shelyn first stole the weapon it was a nightmarish and hideous piece of craftsmanship, but in the millennia since, she has remade it into a beautiful piece of art.
