Session 9: City of the Free

General Summary

The party finds themselves arriving in Freywharf. On the approach, the party makes a decision regarding the cultist's book. They decide to split it amongst themselves in order to make sure that it cannot be used by such fanatics again. They then make landfall in the capital.
Upon arriving, the party received a map from their friend Wilfrick who decided to go and make himself at home in the Yawning Cove inn. The party starts their trip through the city by, on Madame Jeanne behest, visiting the Frankonian Embassy. Afterwhich they make their way up to a shop that deals in magical items. In accordance with this and the newfound wealth that the party has come upon, they then engage in a shopping spree. They visit the armory, a weapons merchant and the general store. All to stock up on supplies and equipment.
During these visits, the Alchemist Thylius left the party to visit the New Olovix Academy and its libraries. In his stead the party happens upon a strange figure. A Wyvaran Pack Master. A large draconic being named Wrathus, with blue scales, a tail, and a pair of small wings. With him he had, to Yujin joy, a couple of animal companions. Two medium-sized dinosaurs and an eagle. The figure decides to join them after being approached and convinced by Yujin. The party then gradually made their way to the Yawning Cove inn.
Meanwhile, the jötun Yorg made his way to a bit of a shady part of the city. There he found a tavern where he spent his day drinking. He also managed to find a job as a bouncer at a local brothel.
The rest of the party also found things to do. Other than following up on the leads regarding the whereabouts of the so-called final rune. Regarding just that, Vexna managed to find an inn that seems to have connections and knowledge regarding said rune. She agreed to return to the dwarf that night, something she failed to do. They also took it upon themselves to find information regarding a group of thieves known as the Agents of the Watcher. They also got word of a mystical society that called themselves the Servants of the Dark Tribe.
Varinel also managed to gather some information on the group that he has been chasing. The Red Velvet Clan. Not only that. He even managed to find them, or at least a part of the group. Suppressing the rage that was burning in Stefan, he actually managed to infiltrate them and gain their trust. Even getting invited to an attack they were planning that very evening. After convincing his fellow part members to join him in this backstabbing endeavor they met up with the group and left for the target of the attack, a brothel. All except Madame Jeanne who instead alerted some guards who followed her to lay ambush to the place that they were going to attack. It also just happened to be where Yorg had gotten a job as a bouncer.
On the way there, Vexna managed to subtly reveal the group as evil, cementing her will to aid Varinel in fighting them. When they arrived, the attack commenced, and as it did Varinel summoned Stefan, revealing their betrayal. Battle commenced. The Clan disposed of the pimp, before realizing who their true enemy was. The leader of the clan fled immediately upon seeing Stefan, since he was one of the members who had betrayed and killed him. The rest stayed and fought, at least at first. They did manage to slay one of Wrathus' dinosaur companions. However, when they realized that they were outmaned. They began to flee. Yorg managed to catch one of them, and another was knocked out in the fight. The other two along with the leader managed to escape. The leaders escape was somewhat mystical in nature, since he apparently escaped in an explosion. Only Yujin who was found unconscious truly knows how it happened.
In the aftermath of the fight, more guards showed up and arrested the members of the Red Velvet Clan. Vexna, Varinel, and a fuzzy-headed Yujin followed them to ensure that they didn't escape. Varinel even stayed the night in the guardhouse to interrogate the prisoners as soon as they woke up. Wrathus took the corpse of the now-dead dino, borrowed a shovel from Madame Jeanne and left the city. Yorg spent the rest of the evening trying to solve the power vacuum left in the brothel. He is now the co-owner along with an elven girl. At least for the time being. He then spent the night in the brothel.
