Emmanuella von Wissen
Emmanuella XV von Wissen, Grand Countess of Richtenhof, Countess of Brandenheim and Duchess of Reimarshamn, is the Elector Countess of the Empire's Grand Province of Richtenland. While no front-line general herself, she's nevertheless shrewd of mind and iron of will, as attested to by her long and relative stable reign over the city-state, and had survived many threats and challenges to her power. She had always been known to quote an old Frankonian proverb when her lack of personal martial skill is put into question. "Wars," as the proverb goes, "are waged by warriors, but won with gold." And gold is what Brandenheim and the Countess possess in massive abundance, and when her city was under danger she gladly emptied her entire hoard of treasures to field more warriors to fight in the city's defence.
History
Born as the child of Count Konstantin von Wissen, Emmanuella was a childhood friend of the current Emperor. She gained her seat around the same time that Grimwald Adelman was crowned, she had a claim to the title of Elector Count, but not a good one, so she had to curry the favour of Grimwald, some suggest she seduced him. She eventually took the title of Elector Countess in 3683 AM. She proved she had no head for governing; she was more concerned with the luxuries of her status than with the minutiae of ruling not only a province (which most consider a backwater) but also an important city. She detested the burghers and commoners of Richtenland, and rarely dealt with the villages and towns under her purview, handing more and more power to the Toppenheimer family of Taldorf. In fact, she was in negotiations with the Emperor to divorce Brandenheim from Richtenland completely. In exchange for granting Brandenheim an electoral vote and allowing Richtenland to retain its vote, she would make an extensive loan to the Emperor's coffers. All of her work to separate Brandenheim from Richtenland was because the Countess adored the city. She loved the culture, the pomp, the majesty, its history, and its deep coffers. No matter how desperate the plight of the commoners, she could always be guaranteed comfort and pleasure whilst installed in her seat as Countess of Brandenheim. As far as she was concerned, the Toppenheimers could keep their brutal winters and dreary farmland. All she wanted was Brandenheim.
