Belham

Government

Belham is currently ruled over by the Baroness Origena Devy. She is backed up by her son Arnholde Devy, the future baron.

Industry & Trade

The town is in large self-sufficient. Its main commodities is stone, but they also produce plenty of pottery and fish, but the town doesn't receive enough trade to garner much renown for these industries. Most of the town's inhabitants work for family businesses or provide services. Residents have therefore become fractious and minor squabbles are common.

Guilds and Factions

Belham has a Dracuine Scultoti headquarter, from which a rotating squadron of scultoti patrol and report activities in Dragonfen.

History

Belham was founded shortly after the dragons were defeated and the Kingdom of Scaelor was founded. Situated by the swamps of Dragonfen, the town of Belham was constructed by the first Chromatic king to watch over the dangerous swamps that were too inaccessible for the newly founded Scaelorian army. A first vanguard should the horrors that slumbers within Dragonfen ever awaken and attempt to retake the lands to the west. Even though there are constant reports of movements in the swamps they have yet to report any movements from the true monsters of Dragonfen.    Shortly after its construction, the king gave Tula Belham the title of baroness in charge of the local Dracuine Scultoti who patrol the Dragonfen. This was due to her fighting prowess, where she led a group of prestigious dragonslayers. Those who followed her to this area became the town's first inhabitants. Soon after, a group of monks of Irori built a monastery, the Monastery of Saint Kyerixus.   After the baroness and her husband died, rule of the town fell to distant relations of her husband Arturic Canteclure. The Castle Tula was destroyed in 2800 AM when Baron Sarvo Canteclure joined a rebellion. It has since been called the Witch Tower, and was preceded by the disappearance of the monks. Sir Arkold Devy, one of those credited with bringing down Canteclure, was awarded the barony next, and his descendants have ruled since. Historically, the town has made its money from the limestone quarry, but an earthquake flooded the quarry. Now, people are looking for alternative locations to quarry valuable stone.

Architecture

Belham presents a sleepy, rustic facade.

Geography

The town is situated on the southern edge of the Dragonfen, which is a wetland in north-eastern part of Scaelor. Centuries ago it was said the domain of an ancient black dragon, myths that have not yet been confirmed.
