Aurix
The Age of Dragons was not merely an era of rampant draconic dominance, but the zenith of an organized and far-reaching civilization ruled by the great wyrms. Known as the Draconic Empire of Aurix, or the "Eternal Scaled Dominion," this empire was one of the most powerful and enduring political entities in history, rivaling even the myths of creation in its influence.
Structure
The empire was ruled by a Draconic Senate, a council of ancient dragons representing the great Houses and Flights of both Chromatic and Metallic lineage. Above them sat a single Draconic Emperor or Empress, selected through a rare and sacred rite combining conquest, elder council recognition, arcane prophecy, and ancient bloodline.
Below the emperor were the Imperial Wyrmarchs, dragons who governed entire regions or provinces, each supported by mortal Magister-Governors, Legate-Commanders, and Arcane Prefects. This system allowed dragons to maintain dominance while integrating mortals into bureaucratic and scholarly roles.
Despite its draconic core, the Empire promoted coexistence, mortals of all races served in academia, military, trade, and governance. The empire introduced standardized currency with coins of copper, silver, gold, and platinum. They also built grand libraries, magical infrastructure, and an imperial calendar still used in many regions today.
Territories
Aurix spread all the way from the edges of the Saharon Dunes in the south-east, to the coast beneath Chitax in the west, and neighboured the giant's hold of Morngard in the north. The heart of the empire lay in Aurix’Thalor, a colossal capital built into and upon the floating basalt cliffs of the continent of Thuar-Duun, east of the Borrovyan Peninsula. This continent was connected to the western lands by the colossal Bridge of Thuul, a feat of both arcane and architectural wonder stretching for miles over the raging Sea of Ash. Aurix’Thalor was a city of gold-veined stone and ancient sorcery, home to draconic courts, immortal sages, and temples that reached the clouds.
Military
The Imperial Legions of Aurix were highly regimented forces commanded by both draconic Wyrm-Generals and mortal Strategos. Each legion combined heavy infantry, battlemages, and siege engineers, alongside lesser dragon units and airborn draconic scouts. They constructed fortified roads, arcane highways, and levitating supply ships, ensuring swift communication and control across continents.
The legions also enforced tribute, quelled rebellions, and expanded the empire’s borders, earning a reputation for both brilliance and brutality. Discipline, honor, and magical aptitude were prized among their ranks.
