Angelique Delecour
The Pontiff of the Golden State Inquisition
Angelique Delecour is the Leonine Pontiff of the Golden State Inquisition of Frankonia. As part of this position, she is one of the two non-appointed members of the Serene Conclave (the other being the Marshal-Governor) which confers a high level of responsibility, respect, and fear (depending on who is asked). As Pontiff, Angelique is meant to be the spirit of Frankonian liberty and republicanism manifest.
Career
Angelique was originally a paladin of Iomedae in the Order of the Steel Falcon, operating in Terre-de-Mer. For reasons undisclosed to the public, she left the Steel Falcons and moved to Ponvarus and soon thereafter became an ordained Exactor of the State Inquisition. Her early investigations uncovered the presence of revolutionary insurrectionists, cults devoted to different archdevils, and circles of tax evaders. These were all publicly dismantled and its leaders judged before the Court of Cassation, which for the most part resulted in death sentences. The case that resulted in her nomination as Leonine Pontiff was a significant event known as the Grand Betrayal of Values. This was a plot by the Templars of the Ivory Labyrinth, an insidious cult of Baphomet, who had infiltrated several influential positions in Frankonia, and whose conspirators even included the former Pontiff. Her part in this event was deemed 'more than sufficient' as evidence of utter incorruptibility and devotion to the Republic, and she ascended as Leonine Pontiff in 3650 AM.
