Velsarra Til'vere

In all the Twin Worlds, practically no one can claim to have created even one entire race, let alone two. However, as flawed and as terrible as she was, the misbegotten verbeeg and mongrelman races can both call Velsarra Til'vere "mother".

Physical Description

Body Features

Originally, Velsarra was a hunched, twisted creature. However, her magic rendered her a being of incredible beauty. She seemed to stand almost unnaturally straight, as if reveling in her own posture. She kept her wavy black hair very long, reaching halfway down her back. Her silver eyes seemed to demand acknowledgement.

Apparel & Accessories

The way Velsarra dressed was a very measured attempt to draw attention to her beauty. She always wore dresses that had a very low neckline, as well as a silver necklace to further draw the eye. These dresses without exception clung tightly to her curvaceous form. The preferred colors for these outfits were black and silver.

Personal history

Vilsarra's parents were very important figures among the elven city of Veille, nobles among a noble race. Their daughter, however was simply born wrong. Her face was twisted, her back hunched, and her hand clubbed.   A child among them being so ugly was anathema to the elves. They rejected her immediately, and her parents disowned her. While the elves of Veille prospered, one of their own lurked on the fringes. She watched, and she envied, and she grew bitter.   With seemingly no options, she left the judgemental eyes of her own people in search of tolerance. She thought the cosmopolitan ways of humanity would be her salvation. She almost starved and froze making her way through the mountains, but she found what she was looking for.   She found herself in Fort Northpass (modern day Gate Town), and she quickly found that it would be no safe haven. The people there were common brigands, and they treated her even worse. Where her own people ignored her, they beat her mercilessly and forced her to do their menial labor. She even attempted suicide, but they kept her alive as a joke.   One night, the beaten-down elf girl could take no more. She murdered the bandit chief in a fit of rage. To escape the wrath of his men she fled into the night in a blind panic. She hid in the barn of a nearby farmer until midday.   When the farmer discovered her, she feared for her life. However, the old widow welcomed her into her home. That meal was the only kindness the young elf had ever known. She told the woman her story very freely, and in a whisper the widow told her of a strange cabin in the woods. According the her, the creature there was capable of amazing things for a terrible price.   Velsarra never even hesitated. She sought out the cabin immediately. Its occupant, a hag named Granny Pots greeted her warmly and welcomed her inside like an old friend. She asked nothing of the rejected young woman and taught her the secrets of magic.   For obvious reasons, she showed a great interest in the schools of Transmutation and Illusion. She was also dazzled by the beguiling powers of the school of Enchantment. She studied every day until she finally developed a ritual that would remake her body.   Now beautiful, she returned to her home in Veille, where she was welcomed home like a long-lost daughter. Her parents welcomed her into their family for the very first time. Balls were thrown in her honor, and suitors lined up for her attention.   She had everything she ever wanted, but it didn't satisfy. She couldn't help but remember the cruelty she suffered from them when she was ugly, and noticed just how superficial their favor was. She disintegrated a suitor in a fit of rage and returned to Granny Pots.   The hag encouraged her hatred, and reminded her of her talents in the manipulation of flesh. Velsarra swore vengeance on all those who showed her cruelty, but she needed an army even the might of Veille couldn't stand against.   For her plan to succeed, she needed anonymity and access to a steady supply of test subjects. She believed cities with their vast arrays of people would be perfect for her purposes. She needed to move to a city where no one knew her. To that end, she moved south to the city of Whiteriver.   She quickly fell into the life of bewitchment and hedonism. While very enjoyable for her, this lifestyle was mostly a cover that allowed her to discreetly interview potential test subjects. Those who would not be missed would be taken for her experiments.   These test subjects would be subjected to brutal transformations again and again to try an improve their strength, speed and endurance. Most did not survive, and those who did were left as hideous amalgams of many other creatures. These rejects were dumped into the city's sewers, where they took the name "mongrelmen".   It took many years before her efforts were met with any success. These subjects were very much stronger and tougher with no loss of agility. At first, she considered their increased size was a source of disappointment for her, but eventually she started to see their giantish stature as properly intimidating. She named these creations "verbeeg", or "hand of vengeance" in the ancient elven tongue.   At first, she used her magic to condition them into perfect loyalty, but this quickly became taxing for her abilities. She instead altered their reproductive systems at allow for accelerated growth. This allowed her to breed an army that literally worshipped her.   Her plan was going well, but as with many schemers through the ages, she simply couldn't plan for the intervention of a party of adventurers. This particular party included a gnoll wizard named Ratagar of Rall and one of her former test subjects named Onder.   Onder desired a cure from his mongrelman state, and so came to the source of the condition. Velsarra, however, was far more interested in correcting past mistakes. She attempted to kill him, only for the party to barely escape. As a result of their meeting, she ordered the party's death as well as the deaths of any other mongrelmen her verbeeg encountered.   The investigation of the adventurers left them with a great deal of information about Velsarra's plans. They worked very actively to disrupt them while she attempted to kill them. This allowed them to grow immensely in power and skill, especially Ratagar.   The two wizards engaged in a tense duel in her Whiteriver home. They were both very evenly matched, but through tactical skill the gnoll was able to exhaust his opponent's magic. She barely survived by escaping into the night. However, she was met my a mob of mongrelmen and was brutally killed.

Mental Trauma

Her life as a hunchback left more than its share of scars on Velsarra's psyche. The constant disregard from others left her with a compulsive need for attention. Constant abuse also left her with an unbelievably short temper, and a vindictive streak that most would consider excessive. It has been suggested that she never truly grew out of the mindset of the beaten hunchback, but only grew more powerful.
