Ilan's Memory - Brotherly Love

Resolution:

If the party intervenes and saves the captives, Beric will reveal information from his knowledge about the spread of the corruption but may be less specific, having lost a potential ritual revelation. If they allowed him to continue, Beric will reluctantly describe what he learned, though his spirit is visibly broken. In either event, assuming Beric survives, he will offer the following dialogue:

"Listen, Ilan... I fear I have strayed, from the mother's light... What I have done, has been invaluable in our efforts against this darkness. I have… bought us answers. But at what cost? There is no absolution for this.

I want you to have this - I kept your fathers secrets at his behest (*** As he says this - fireballs and lightning collide in the distant sky overhead ***), but I fear he has no control over this city anymore, and hasn't... for a long time".

and he reaches out and hands Ilan a medallion engraved with the symbol of his family—a silver crest, etched with the image of a lion holding a sword. The moment he touches it, a surge of memories floods his mind: fleeting images of his father’s pained face, of his brother’s wild eyes, and of himself, once a small child clinging to innocence and kindness.

The medallion seems to hum, growing warmer in his hand, and an ancient whisper fills the air: "Blood calls to blood."

Memory Vision:

For a brief moment, Ilan is transported into a memory. He sees himself as a young boy, watching his brother train with reckless intensity. The brother’s eyes—filled with anger, desperation, and contempt—linger on him. Ilan recalls the way his brother used to jeer at him for his gentle nature, their father’s hand heavy on his brother’s shoulder, futilely trying to curb his violent tendencies. The prince was always unpredictable, a force of chaos in the royal family, which eventually led to Ilan's forced exile.

A Voice in the Darkness:

Suddenly, Ilan hears a disembodied voice echoing through the chamber, but it’s unclear if it’s in his mind or real. The voice resembles that of his brother, but it’s laced with something darker, more sinister.

"You cannot forsake family, Ilan. The kingdom may fear me, but I am the true heir to our father’s legacy. Are you so quick to betray blood? Will you let the kingdom consume me, or will you fight by my side as my loyal brother should?"

Ilan feels a sharp pang in his chest as the voice continues. "But if you choose to betray me... can you really say you are any different than the father who cast you away?"

Decision Point:
As the vision fades, Ilan’s mind is left buzzing with the implications of his brother’s words. He now stands at a crossroads. In his heart, he feels the warmth of the medallion, its pulse growing stronger with each breath, almost as if it’s drawing him toward his brother—or urging him to destroy the darkness within him.
