The Korruksi Empire

The Korruksi Empire was an ancient society of Iruxi, dating back to pre-Earthfall days. Now very little is left of the civilization, except for the crumbling ruins in the central Orian deserts and their two scattered descendant nations.

History

Pre-Earthfall

Back in the age where elves ruled over the continents from Arisol, the Korruksi lizardfolk ruled an empire in the inhospitable deserts across the center of the Orian continent. The empire was skilled in extremely powerful Arcane magics, and used many of their artifacts to improve the quality of life in their desert cities, rendering them into beautiful oasis.   Though they could not measure up to the power of the elven kingdom, the Korruksi held a firm grasp on their lands against all other nations, and tended toward the isolationist. Few outsiders were allowed in, to protect the secrets of their Arcane wonders; the journals of the few who were allowed into these cities comprise most of the surviving records of the culture.

Earthfall

The cataclysm of Earthfall hit the Korruksi Empire as harshly as it did most others; possibly even harder, due to their already-inhospitable homeland. When even their relics' power wasn't enough to combat the encroaching winters, the nation as a whole decamped as refugees, forced to abandon their lands and many of their artifacts in search of more habitable climes. After a harrowing trek to the south, the lizardfolk came across the former-capitol of Arisol, now abandoned by its rulers. They took to the capitol's ruins, making them as livable as they could to try to outlast the cataclysmic after-effects of Earthfall.

The Schism

A short decade after the resettling of Arisol, with the environmental effects of Earthfall worsening, tensions between factions in the refugee empire grew and grew, until what started as a squabble over use of the nation's remaining Arcane wonders and magical power boiled over into all-out civil war. Very few records have survived from this period - and their surviving descendants are loathe to speak of it - so we have only a vague idea of what happened over the course of the war, but it reduced most of what remained of the ancient elven capitol to utter ruin.   The climax of the war occurred when one of the two parties seized control over a massive, ancient golem of unknowable power and tried to use it to obliterate their enemies. The running battle devastated the city and drove their foes out into the Occian continent; the final battle against the golem claimed countless lives on both sides and devastated the landscape, but in the end, the golem was destroyed, and the faction that had used it was disgraced and routed.

Aftermath

After the war, Arisol itself was almost completely destroyed, the ruins unfit for habitation in the now-wintery climate. What remained of the Korruksi Empire's citizens broke apart, splitting into two new nations. The destruction of the Occian plains unexpectedly caused several underground hot springs to erupt to the surface (eventually turning the land into the area we now know as The Ironvine Swamp), and the victors in the war settled down into this region, founding the Dowuari nation. The aggressors in the war, shamed by their loss, retreated across the land-bridge and sought shelter in the tunnels under Oria, eventually becoming the ascetic Sharrak nation.

Artifacts

The Korruksi Empire was very learned in Arcane magic, and they developed powerful artifacts to support their way of life. Though most of them were lost in the Earthfall and its aftermath, some few have been recovered from the ruins of their ancestral home, and an unknown number may still be in the hands of their descendants as well.
