Primor

Primor’s temperate environment and its mix of large landmasses and major oceans made it an attractive world for colonization millennia ago. The discovery of the deep-space wormhole later named the Primor Gate only hastened the process. Once osmium was found on the planet, extracting and developing it required skill and continual technological development, creating a well-educated mixed-species population. Protecting osmium claims required substantial security, soldiers, and mercenaries. Early in the Age of Dusk, Primor’s people sought independence from the Imperium. A series of suspicious deaths in the local governorships over the course of a decade hastened the process. Though none knew it at the time, these deaths were at the hand of Bbarus, an idealistic Xxcha scholar turned mercenary and, ultimately, assassin.

Knowing Primor would always be a target due to its osmium, Bbarus organized the Atrament, a clade of assassin-scholars dedicated to protecting the world. Atrament teams worked in the shadows to eliminate threats to Primor’s independence. Eventually, they would offer their services to other factions so long as their mission would also benefit Primor in some way. The Atrament do not rule Primor, but they are the power behind several successive governments in the past few thousand years.

The Atrament could not defend against full invasions during the Twilight Wars, but if Primor was treated poorly, the clade could make the invaders regret it. On the other hand, if the invaders fought a larger perceived evil or threat against Primor, Atrament teams would act in support. Today, the strike teams and lone assassins of the Atrament are respected and feared even among the Great Civilizations both on the battlefield and in the shadows.
