Personal history

Long before her undeath, Prolane was a prodigious elven sorceress, a seeker of knowledge who believed that magic was the key to understanding and mastering fate itself. She studied the arcane with relentless devotion, her mind always reaching for deeper truths, never satisfied with mortal limitations. Her search eventually led her to Volak The Watcher, a being whose mastery over necromantic prophecy promised insights beyond the mortal realm.   At first, she was merely another disciple—one of many who sought his tutelage—but Prolane's intellect and hunger for knowledge quickly set her apart. She absorbed Volak’s teachings with unnatural speed, proving herself more than just a student. Under his instruction, she unlocked secrets of undeath, learning to preserve her consciousness beyond the constraints of mortality. But what intrigued her most was his obsession with foresight and the manipulation of fate. She, too, wished to see the future—not just glimpses, but true control over the strands of destiny.   However, Volak was not a generous master. He hoarded his greatest revelations, drip-feeding knowledge to Prolane while ensuring she never surpassed him. But she was patient, quietly gathering power and piecing together the fragments of prophecy he let slip. She saw what Volak refused to see: his downfall was inevitable. Convinced that she could usurp him and wield his power more effectively, Prolane plotted to overthrow him, believing that destiny itself willed it.   Yet Volak saw her treachery before she could act. Perhaps he had long suspected it, or perhaps his cursed eye granted him a vision of her future betrayal. Either way, he struck first. Rather than destroy her—a waste of a powerful mind—he chose a far crueler fate. Using his most insidious magic, he ripped her soul from her body and imprisoned her within one of his soul jars, sealing her away for eternity. Her mind remained intact, fully conscious, trapped in a swirling void of glass and wax, unable to speak, act, or escape.   For centuries, Prolane screamed in silence, her mind writhing in endless torment. Deprived of a body, she had nothing but her own thoughts—her rage, her regret, her hatred for Volak. But Prolane was not broken. She studied the prison from within, testing its enchantments, learning. Over time, she began to twist the magics of her prison, subtly unraveling the bindings Volak had woven so long ago.   Then, the adventurers arrived.
