Personal history

Halber Frey grew up in the a bustling halfling settlement , a thriving hub of trade and camaraderie. From an early age, Halber displayed a sharp mind and a knack for persuasion, traits that made him a natural merchant. By the time he was 20, Halber had established himself as a respected trader, known for his silver tongue and keen ability to spot a profitable deal. However, he was not above a bit of clever trickery to turn a better profit, earning him the nickname "Quickhands" among his peers.   Halber's success led him to venture farther from home in search of rare and exotic wares. His travels brought him to the dark, labyrinthine undercity of the Derro, where he encountered a peculiar merchant named Movii. Movii’s goods were strange but enticing—unique artifacts and baubles that seemed to shimmer with hidden potential. Intrigued by the promise of great wealth, Halber struck a deal, purchasing 100 items at a suspiciously low price. Movii assured him they were priceless treasures, but Halber’s greed overpowered his better judgment.   It wasn’t long before Halber realized the truth: the items were cursed. Each one carried a sinister magic that wreaked havoc on its owner. Panicked and humiliated, Halber knew that if word got out, his reputation—and his life—would be ruined. Desperate, he decided to cut his losses and rid himself of the cursed wares by any means necessary.   Over the next few months, Halber swindled and deceived anyone he could find, trading away the cursed items under the guise of rare collectibles. Guilt gnawed at him, but his fear of ruin outweighed his conscience. He used disguises, fake names, and even hired intermediaries to protect his identity as he unloaded the items. Eventually, he found himself with only two cursed trinkets remaining.   In the wilderness, Halber stumbled upon a lone man, Alais, who seemed like an easy mark. With practiced charm, Halber spun a tale of wonder and mystery about the remaining items, convincing Alais to take them off his hands. To Halber’s shock, Alais soon discovered the deception but, instead of reacting with anger or vengeance, showed Halber compassion. Alais shared the teachings of Agape, the deity of unconditional love and forgiveness, and Halber was moved in a way he never expected.
