Fire Fang Jackal
"The first sign of a Fire Fang Jackal pack is not the sound of their howls, but the flickering of their teeth in the dark. Many a traveler has seen those ember-lit fangs and mistaken them for distant torches—until the searing pain of a bite brings them to the ground. If you hear laughter in the heat of the dunes, don’t mistake it for the wind. That’s the pack playing with their next meal." – Harkan Redshield, veteran mercenary
Basic Information
Ecology and Habitats
Fire Fang Jackals thrive in the arid wastelands, volcanic plains, and sun-scorched savannas of the 12 Lands. They make their dens in rocky crevices or beneath hardened lava flows, where the heat lingers even after the sun sets. These creatures are most commonly found near sources of geothermal activity, as their bodies require warmth to sustain the mystical fire coursing through their veins. While they avoid densely wooded areas, they have been known to prowl the outskirts of settlements, drawn to the scent of cooking fires and livestock.
Behaviour
Unlike ordinary jackals, Fire Fang Jackals are bold pack hunters with a cunning intelligence that rivals that of trained war hounds. They strike under the cover of darkness, their fangs glowing like embers as they sink into their prey, igniting flesh with supernatural heat. When threatened, they work together to corral enemies into deadly terrain, using their speed and coordination to set traps. Lone jackals are rare but significantly more aggressive, often displaying erratic and unpredictable behavior, as if the flames within them are consuming their sanity.
