Ecology and Habitats

Elasmosaurs are aquatic reptiles that thrive in deep lakes, coastal waters, and vast inland seas. These prehistoric creatures prefer warm, temperate waters, often found in regions untouched by modern civilizations. Fossilized remains and local legends suggest that some populations dwell in subterranean caverns connected by underwater tunnels, surfacing only when hunting or during seasonal migrations. While primarily marine, elasmosaurs have been spotted in large freshwater lakes where food is abundant and competition is low.

Behaviour

Elasmosaurs are solitary hunters, relying on their long, serpentine necks to ambush schools of fish and other marine prey. Their sharp, interlocking teeth are perfect for snaring slippery creatures, and their streamlined bodies allow them to move with surprising agility despite their size. Though they are not inherently aggressive, they are territorial and will drive away intruders, using their powerful tails to generate immense waves. Some sailors whisper of strange calls in the night—low, mournful wails that ripple across the water, possibly a form of communication between distant individuals.
