Personal history
Corpse, the vulture, was once a wild scavenger that made its home in the craggy cliffs near Stormreach. Known to locals as a sinister yet oddly regal presence, the bird was a harbinger of death, circling battlefields and feasting on the remains of goblins and other creatures that fell to the harsh cold of the north. The villagers began to view the vulture as an omen of survival—wherever Corpse fed, the dangers were eliminated.
Chester first encountered Corpse, after narrowly surviving a goblin ambush. Weakened and bleeding, Chester dragged himself to safety, only to collapse near a dying goblin. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Corpse swooped down, its dark wings blotting out the last light of day. But instead of feasting on Chester, the bird perched nearby, eyeing him as though judging his resolve. When Chester awoke the next morning, the vulture remained, watching over him like a silent guardian.
Seeing the bird's potential for both companionship and intimidation, Chester began leaving scraps of meat for Corpse, who eventually grew attached to the grizzled man.
