The oni king, Shuten Doji, is defeated at his fortress at Mt. Ote by samurai Minamoto no Raikou. His defeat causes his forces to scatter. Among them were his granddaughter, Jorogumo, and her young son.
Shuten Doji's still living head is buried at Byodo-in temple.
