Spizzit

History

On Oara, civilizations have strained against the cataclysmic destruction wrought by Resurgences time and time again. Though with each time it feels like the Volden are closer and closer to success, mortalkind has so far withstood the slaughter. This is not to say that society does not collapse. Artifacts of the past can be commonly found throughout the land. One such example of articles of the past are the older iterations of coinage in the Citadel Coalition.   Half-silvers, or "spizzits" as they're nicknamed, are one of the more uncommon types of ancient mint coins. Sought after by collectors and Reliquary antiquarians alike, spizzits take on the appearance of lacquered silver coins. Aside from their glossy appearance provided by the lacquer, the silver coins are in a strange round shape without a hole in its center for carrying. What appears to be silver is actually an older iteration of electrum currency. The lacquer protects a coating of paint disguising the coin's appearance with one half colored silver and the other half shining with a golden hue. Putting the coin in an alcohol solvent will remove the lacquer to expose the paint which can then be scraped off to show the golden half.

Use

Unbeknownst to most of Citarii society, the use of spizzits extends outside of collector trading. The enigmatic Weavers, a group of nomadic people who use magic outside of orthodoxy, use spizzits as a means of identifying one another.   In a land where the use of magic is highly tied to the religion, those who shirk the grasping hands of Tay are often persecuted. Harshly. It not uncommon for troupes of Weavers to be run out of towns and villages. Local authorities may find the slightest excuse to imprison a Weaver because of their practiced heresy. There have even been a few instances of Weavers being strung up in cities on flimsy charges.   With such a history of persecution, Weavers have taken to hiding their true nature when visiting towns to restock on supplies. Not everyone is filled with as much religious fervor as the urban Citarii population. Like with any cause, many are sympathetic towards the Weavers, and so the spizzit aids in their identification.
