Eriah Coalition

For thousands of years, the planet Eriah was made up of over a hundred different countries. Each had their own interests and alliances, until roughly 120 years ago when a global war nearly destroyed the planet. When peace was finally established, the world leaders came together to create an alliance that would prevent such a war from happening again. With the approval of the Thousand Worlds' central government, the Eriah Coalition was formalized and officially joined the Thousand Worlds.
In the present day, the various nations of the Eriah Coalition operate more like states of principalities under the control of a central government - the Eriah Coalition - led by the Planetary President and the Grand Senate of Eriah.

Structure

Eriah is a democratic, federal parliamentary republic, with the majority of the legislative power vested in the Grand Senate. Within the Eriah Coalition, the Planetary President is largely a ceremonial figurehead, though he acts as Eriah's representative to the central government, which gives him a larger role in the Thousand Worlds as a whole.
Within the Coalition, the individual nations operate under their traditional government systems, most of which are constitutional monarchies, though a few have elected presidents. Despite the largely independent nature of this arrangement, all constitutions have to meet the approval of the Grand Senate.
With the formation of the Eriah Coalition, war between nations was outlawed. However, quasi-wars between factions, known as Quarrels, were still allowed. These Quarrels are relatively uncommon, but they can be bloody when they flare up. If a Quarrel has very many casualties, Coalition Forces may become involved, and the Coalition has authority to mediate between quarreling factions. Factions rise, fall, and change leadership over time, making it difficult to keep track of the separate factions. For that reason, most people avoid faction affiliations.
There is one faction, however, that has existed for over a thousand years, and has never been recognized by any official government. This is the Pit Viper Faction, a religious faction that awaits the return of Quien Shan. The Pit Viper Faction has been labelled a terrorist faction by the Eriah Coalition.

Public Agenda

The purpose of the Eriah Coalition is to govern the planet Eriah, protect her interests amongst the Thousand Worlds, and maintain peace between the separate states that make up the Coalition.

History

A diverse world home to many different cultures, Eriah sits on the outer edge of the Tech Empire within the Thousand Worlds. This planet is approximately the same size as Terra, and revolves around the star Kasto Del in the Uramor Galaxy. Eriah has one satellite moon, Pir.
The people of Eriah live on six continents and hundreds of islands covering roughly 28% of the planet's surface. The global populations is estimated at 8 billion people in the present day, divided between 104 countries, and speaking an estimated 91 languages. An additional 14 languages can be found in old texts but are no longer spoken. Eriah is also home to a variety of religions. Many of these religions, despite their philosophical differences, share a similar figure that supposedly once tried to destroy the world. Some religions believe he will one day succeed, while others believe he will ultimately be defeated.
However, in the present day, this figure - known as Quien Shan, the Destroyer, King of Darkness, Dark Prince, Worldeater, Devourer of Souls, and a few other sinister monikers - is widely considered a myth rather than established fact. After a global war 120 years ago, most nations have joined together in the Eriah Coalition, a planetary government recognized by the Thousand Worlds. Most people who live under the Eriah Coalition are more concerned with day to day life, jobs, and families than ancient legends.
