Choam

CHOAM Financial market sector CHOAM, an acronym for Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles, is a confederation of smaller banks, mail carriers, investment firms, and auction houses. These constituent parts have signed non-competition pacts to not operate in the existing the economic territories and to price fix services throughout the network. In practice various cloak and dagger plots are conducted behind the scenes as the factionalized elements work to subsume the assets and influence of rival confederates. CHOAM offices offer secure banking services insured against theft or loss. Cr may be deposited at any location, but are only available on the world the deposit was made. You may make a request at any CHOAM office to have funds transferred via data sticks along mail routes, but this request must travel from the office the request is made at to the location being transferred from. All transfers cost Cr10 and are made at J-2 speed, but priority rates can be paid raised to the power of the J-Drive being employed (a J-3 transfer would cost Cr1k [10 * 10 * 10], a J-4 transfer Cr10k, and so forth). The GM rolls 2D in secret, and consults the table. 2D Roll Speed of transfer 3 – 6 or 8 – 10 There is no delay. 7 The transfer is delayed 1 week. 3 or 11 – 12 The transfer is delayed 4 weeks. 2 The request for transfer didn’t originate in the system the money is held – then the request never made it to the CHOAM office holding the account and must be resent (the new request will be sent at a J-Drive 1 higher than the initial request as a complementary service), all other numbers result in no delays.     CHOAM will buy or auction off any system legal item with the exception of Buy N Large products. If players sell directly to CHOAM they will be paid half the value of the item, but an auction is more involved. The seller first makes a Broker roll to draft a listing to compel bids then the GM makes two 1D rolls in secret to modify the value of the initial Broker roll. After one month the auction is concluded and money is transferred. The first secret GM roll determines if the second is positive (4+) or negative (1 – 3), and the second is added to the Broker roll and the table is consulted. Final Broker Roll Result -4 – 7 The item doesn’t sell and the property is claimed by CHOAM without compensation. 8 – 10 The seller earns 50% the market value. 11 – 13 The seller earns 75% the market value. 14 – 15 The seller earns 100% the market value 16+ The seller earns 125% the market value   The last function CHOAM offers, is the sale of bearer bonds. These bonds may be bought or sold at any CHOAM office for a 10% fee. Each bond is a digital asset stored on a data stick that has an initial value of Cr10k, but is not insured against being lost, stolen, damaged, or depreciating in value. Each 3-month period the GM rolls 2D and then D66 in secret, and announces the economic result for the players. The players must individually track the value of their bonds. The bond is a bearer bond for a specific mega corporation and is owned by whoever possesses it. Any Bond that reaches Cr100k in value is considered to have matured and can no longer gain or lose value, and similarly any bond that falls to Cr1k in value is considered defunded and can no longer rise or fall in value. Bonds purchased cannot change value until after they have existed for a full month.   Positive Trend D66 Negative Trend D66 11 Major market crash: All bonds lose 30% value.  11 Severe market crash: All bonds lose 60% value. The known universe is a big place, so events further than a 10-sector radius will generally not have an effect – unless the whole known universe is affected. If something negative happens to a company it may cause the stock price to slip, and vice versa. The GM may decide to override any stock market effect they choose at any time. The following is an optional market reaction table for in the event of a negative occurrence to a company (Death/Arrest/kidnapping/Firing of an executive/CEO, industrial disaster, ransom paid to pirates, terrorist attack on corporate property, scrapped or underperforming product, and etcetera), a positive occurrence (Launching a new product, being awarded a large contract or grant, and etcetera), or resisting a market downturn from the D66 roll (such as a weapons/armor company resisting a market crash due to high demand because a war was declared, a security/mercenary company receiving heightened business after a heist or assassination, or etcetera) 2D Negative Positive Resist Crash 2 – 8 Predictable Outcome: -10% Predictable Outcome: +10% Follow the Trend: No effect to loss in value 9 – 11 Losses Mitigated: +0% Momentum Bungled: +0% Resist the trend: Loss in value is halved instead 12 Victory from the Jaws of Defeat: +10% Unexpected Failure: -10% Buck the Trend: +5% instead   Due to the nature of CHOAM, it has no single CEO.   CHOAM Sells: Corporate Bearer Bonds and CHOAM blockchain transceivers CHOAM Buys: CHOAM has no standard interest in buying.
