Prince Rolan
Prince Rolan Markov, The Deathless
Prince Rolan has reigned over Gloomwrought for many generations. The city's history was once rife with capture and liberation to the rule of a new tyrant, though he brought this cycle to an end some time over a hundred years ago. Little is known about the elusive Prince, as he often hides himelf from the public and his appearances are few and far between. When he does reveal himself, he speaks only of what he must before vanishing into his palace chambers once more.

Personal history
Many years ago, the man emerged from the Badlands, claiming to hail from nowhere, passing as a wandering Shadar-Kai. This falsehood was soon seen through as his immense speed and strength far outclassed that of those who dared oppose his conquest of the city. The first witness to his power was an old wealthy noble in the city, Lord Halgrim. Immediately upon his defeat, Halgrim pledged himself to the soon-to-be ruler of Gloomwrought. He provided his campaign with funding, eventually commissioning the construction of a tall, gothic palace at the heart of Gloomwrought, above the old Church of Orcus, whom Prince Rolan demanded be seperated from the governing of the city-state.
Once Prince Rolan held the throne of Gloomwrought undisputed, Halgrim's son stepped up to form the city's very first official guard company, dedicated to protecting the Prince and the city. Though they had no name at the time, this company would come to be known, in another generation's time, as the Deathless Watch, the Royal Guard of Prince Rolan and the upholders of justice within Gloomwrought.
As the years passed, the city grew accustomed to the Prince's rulership, though a new question was raised; how did Prince Rolan still appear no older than a thirty-year-old man? He soon earned the title of Prince Rolan, the Deathless, in honour of his apparent immortality, though none have yet to discover the true nature of his longevity.
