Jarcel Trink

Jarcel Trink is my very VERY best friend. Sure I have never met her... but I enjoy her company more than anyone real. I have heard that most writers have that one character that sparks their imagination whenever they thick about them. For me, Jarcel is that character.   Jarcel is a grim little goblin girl. She is much different from the clan of Morpha where she was raised. She does not get quite excited about anything and does not share the same values of her former clan--though, she can never help collecting a few odds and ends.   Jarcel admires the beauty around her, much different to other goblins. She is also very aware of herself and makes sure she never earns the title of "thief". There is a tenderness that comes with her intelligence that is hidden behind her dark demeanor.   When she was little she had terrible dreams that took her captive at night and terrorized her. It was like she was trapped in her own mind, trying to free herself by waking up. Day after cay she became more terrified of the night and stopped sleeping. She would sit awake and hold in sobs, the most emotional goblin in her clan and the only one that was ever cross about anything.   When she got a little older she deserted her clan and became a wanderer. it was during her time abroad that she had her dealings with Vella Tottledot, the toymaker's daughter. One night she heard the sound of beautiful music coming from the open window of a cottage. Finding a music box and a baby's cradle she sat listening to the music, feeling the most peace she had felt her whole life. When Vella touched the doorknob to enter the baby's room, Jarcel jumped from the window and feeling no other choice, she took the music box with her.   Now Jarcel doesn't sleep but sits up and dances in the moonlight to the song of the music box. It is the only thing keeping her from sleep. She is self conscious about the music box and constantly worries someone will find her out and take it away, as well as reveal her as a thief. But no one ever has.   Is it true that Jarcel is just a fictional personification of my fears? Yes. It is very true. But many writers have characters that reflect their inner selves... Jarcel is not me, but I do think we would get on perfectly together.   --Briar
