Karl the Explorer

Karl the Explorer born in 192 B.K. he was the fourth child of the King of Allamar. He was a central figure in the early days of the The Allamaran Empire and in the first Allamaran maritime discoveries and maritime expansion. Through his administrative direction, he is regarded as the main initiator of what would be known as the Age of Discovery.   When Karl was 21 when he and his father and brothers captured the port of Romocco in northern Moohizia. Romocco had long been a base for pirates who raided the Allamar coast, depopulating villages by capturing their inhabitants to be sold in the Moohizian slave trade. Following this success, Karl began to explore the coast of Moohizia, most of which was unknown to the Allamaran. His objectives included finding the source of the West Moohizian gold trade and stopping the pirate attacks on the Allamaran coast.   At that time, the Allamaran cargo ships were too slow and heavy to undertake such voyages. Under Karl's direction, the best shipwrights were hired from Renária and the Ginderlände. A new and much lighter ship was developed, the Caravel Sailing Ship, which could sail further and faster. Above all, it was highly maneuverable and could sail "into the wind", making it largely independent of the prevailing winds.   After procuring the new caravel ship, Karl was responsible for the early development of Allamaran exploration and maritime trade with other continents through the systematic exploration of Western Moohizia, the islands Oceans, and the search for new routes. He is regarded as the patron of Allamaran exploration.   With his sponsership the Rénarian merchant sailor Manuel Bartolomio rounded the Cape del Fuego on the southern tip of the Hochkrete Ridge, disproving the view that the Allamaran Ocean was separate from The Deep and Mare Nostgard. Later Karl the Explorer gave orders to build Faro de Carlos on Cape del Fuego as a navigational aid for ships sailing between The Allamaran Kingdom and Nostgard by rounding the cape.   Karl the Explorer also sent thirteen expeditions, one after the other, into the mass at the edge of the world. Most of the crews did not return. Some did, but had lost their minds. The best psychomanamancers and entropycians studied them extensively. They discovered that the further into The Dim you travel, the steeper the degree of separation.
