Veluwe Geographic Location in The Tempest Wilds | World Anvil

Veluwe

The Veluwe is a large hilled area, full of forests. Its official borders were the rivers the IJssel and the Lower Rhine, and the Utrecht border. Originally filled with settlements, it has long since been mostly abandoned because of several reasons. First of, its lack of useful nearby Wastes for technological resources. Second, the agressive Wolves which have long since learned to hunt humans as part of their diet.   Most of the Veluwe has survived the risen sea levels. Only the IJssel has partially lost the fight to the water. In the far north of the area, additional dykes protect Flevoland from flooding. This would make it perfect for new bases, if it wasn't for the hostile wildlife.   The primary animals on the Veluwe are several species of Deer, Wild Boars and Wolves. While the wildlife is hostile, it still is frequently visited by hunters to obtain fresh flesh. Especially smaller settlements, incapable of holding livestock on their own, consider hunting a good way to get meat, and to get rid of incompetent fools. Sending a nuisance on a hunting trip is a good way for an accident to take care of them.

Haha, I like the touch that hunting is often used to get rid of annoying fools. Sounds like a dangerous area.

They already have to shoot thousands of boars nowadays to keep the wildlife in check. I seem to have something for turning the Veluwe into a disaster area, because I'm writing up a similar thing for a Shadowrun campaign.
