Helen McCallister I
Helen McCallister was the daughter of Clarity Bell nee Hawthorne and her husband, Gerald Bell. She grew up in North Carolina, then moved with her mother to Nashville, Tennessee after the death of her father in 1815. In 1821, she married Aaron McCallister, a local builder. They had several children, including David McCallister, the direct ancestor of Helen Catherine McCallister II.
Helen McCallister, like her mother, was interested in brewing magical and medicinal substances. Later, the pair pursued alchemy.
After Clarity Bell's death in 1852, Helen and her husband moved north to New York City, where Helen joined a circle of prominent alchemists. She also patented the medicines that she and her mother developed. After several more years of study, she published five books on alchemy. It is believed that Helen's books include a great deal of the work that she and her mother did jointly.
