Soul Coin

Soul coins is the primary currency of the Nine Hells, forged out of the souls of the damned. However, do to their scarcity and their worth, many soul coins are hoarded and are used to back obsidian chits.

Worth

Soul coins have differing rarity depending on their states.   Infused soul coins are worthy roughly 50 platinum pieces, or 500 obsidian chits, each.   Spent soul coins are generally worth 1 platinum piece, or 10 obsidian chits.   Additionally, soul coins are often kept together in great reserves and used to back to stockpiles of obsidian chits. Each chit is stamped with the face or symbol of its backer and are worth roughly 1 gold piece. While easier to deal with than soul coins, chits come with the danger of becoming worthless should their backer be killed or otherwise lose access to their soul coin reserve. The layers of Hell are full of chits stamped with the symbols of archdukes, archdevils, or warlords that have long fallen out of power, sometimes with their worthless money as the only sign of their previous existence.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The creation of soul coins are the purview of the treasurer of Hell, which in the modern day is the responability of Mammon, the archduke of Minauros.   When forged, soul coins are considered "infused," which means they have a full magical charge that runs off of the soul of the person inside. Any individual holding a soul can can commune telepathically with the soul inside, though many are so broken that is is difficult to hold a useful conversation with them. The soul from each coin can also be borrowed for necromancy spells, binding the soul to an undead creation, such as the kind made through summon undead or animate dead. Finally, the energy within a soul coin can be used for as a fuel source, particularly for infernal warmachines, where each soul coin used can power a vehicle for a full 24 hours.   Once the power of a soul has been used, the soul is rendered "inert." While the soul still exists in the coin, it is in a state of hibernation and cannot be extracted for more power until it has been reinfused. Reinfusion is a process only the treasurer of Hell can perform, and so soul coins continue flowing back into Mammon's hands to be redistributed, making Mammon the wealthiest creature in the cosmos.
