Yperifanos, The God Binder

Yperifanos is one of the most sinister beings in existence. Rather than rely on followers Yperifanos treats his divinity as a business arrangement, rather than actually collecting followers, he makes contracts with various beings and directly bargains for their souls. Yperifanos has used this method to become one of the most powerful Lesser Deities, and has gotten many to give into the temptations he offers both through charismatic negotiation, and a complete willingness to lie, cheat, and manipulate others in order to get what he wants. Yperifanos takes the form of a young man with pale, ashen skin, jet black hair, and a flaming crown.   Yperifanos is known for his contracts. He will promise whatever the victim desires most as long as they are willing to promise their soul to him. Yperifanos is an expert at gathering information and reading individuals in order to figure out their weaknesses and desires. He will often go so far as too set up situations intended to make his targets desperate, and to drive them into making deals that they would otherwise never consider. These plots can last for years, and sometimes consist of nothing more than quiet reminders that the option is available, while Yperifanos waits and watches. Souls of the righteous are of particular value to Yperifanos, as he loves nothing more than to tempt those who are viewed as just and seen as pillars of society. Yperifanos spend most of his time focusing on collecting powerful, high quality souls, and leaves the simpler, more easily collected souls to his followers.   Yperifanos does not have many true followers, most people who offer prayer to him have negotiated their worship as a contract. Many of them offer either their souls, or work to acquire the souls of others in exchange for power. The most competent of these servants are made into devils, who form what is effectively the true church of Yperifanos, and handle much of his soul collecting for him. Just as their god gains power from the souls he claims so too do his followers gain a portion of the souls they collect. The kinds of people Yperifanos takes on as actual followers has a few criteria. They all are of the most depraved sort as to collect souls for Yperifanos means knowingly damning them to an infernal power, but the true trait that he looks for is those individuals who are so confident that they are superior to others that they will do anything to prove it.   The most impressive task that Yperifanos has completed that earned him the title of God Binder is the story of how he rose to godhood. Supposedly Yperifanos was once a mortal man, who succeeded in tricking the deity he supposedly worshiped, stealing away and corrupting that gods powers, and taking them for himself. How exactly he did this is unknown, but other gods are wary of dealing with him as a result, for they are afraid he will claim their powers as well if given the chance.
