The Progenitor
The Progenitor is less an individual, and more an amalgamation of different souls that are collectively referred to as the Progenitor. The Progenitor is the combination of various souls that practiced ancestor worship in life, and manifests itself into various aspects, letting individual souls come to the forefront when dealing with their descendants. The Progenitor takes on the form of whatever ancestor is most appropriate to the individual drawing on that ancestors power, though the form they take is how that ancestor is remembered best, so an ancestor know for being a brave and determined warrior would appear how they did in their prime or during their most notable battles, while an ancestor revered for their wisdom would likely appear older. The Progenitor is not exactly a god, but the power it contains and the general role it serves is similar enough to a god that most consider it one.
The Progenitor is largely focused on providing guidance to the descendants of the souls inside it, and can divide itself up into multiple beings in order to appear to multiple people at once. In those situations the souls most suited towards assisting that group will split off from the main Progenitor until they are finished with their task. Oftentimes these include the ancestors of whatever individual or community is attempting with a few extra souls interested enough to lend a bit of extra power to them. The souls that make up the progenitor are also not all in equal control. The stronger the memory that still remains in the living, the more power that soul will provide to the Progenitor, and the more control it will have over the Progenitors actions. A legendary hero whose stories have been passed down for centuries will be able to manifest more often, and make a more direct impact, than a simple man who lived a regular life, and would likely just be able to provide some advice to his descendants, before fading away into obscurity within a few generations. One a soul has been completely forgotten they leave the Progenitor, and go to rejoin the cycle, either transitioning to another afterlife, or reincarnating as a new being. In rare cases the Progenitor has the ability to use the combined power of all of its souls manifested at once, though this requires the majority of souls to actively agree on a certain plan of action. It is incredibly rare for this to happen, but when it does the Progenitor is capable of manifesting a level of power far beyond the other lesser gods.
Their is no organized religion dedicated to the Progenitor. Each community generally has their own rites and customs for practicing ancestor worship, but there are a few similarities that are quite common. Gravesites and proper burials are quite important to the souls that reside in the Progenitor, as a well maintained grave lends more strength to the soul and keeps part of its memory alive, while improper treatment of its resting place can anger the Progenitor and cause it to deny assistance or even actively try to harm the offender. Oftentimes those who practice Ancestor worship rely more on small private shrines or a village shaman, than larger, more organized religion. As the Progenitor is controlled by the souls who are most prominently remembered by the living, some communities actively try to either produce well renowned souls to increase their own factions influence over the Progenitor, or actively try to manipulate the reputations of different ancestors in order to make their ancestors more prominent, and diminish the ancestors of rivals families or factions.
Divine Domains
All aspects of the Progenitor can grant the Ancestors domain, though different people with particularly prominent ancestors may have a connection to other domains as well. The most common manifestations of the Progenitor include the Nobility, War, Magic, Luck, Trickery, and Knowledge domains.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
The Progenitor has no set symbol, instead tokens of whichever ancestor is being channeled are used in place of Divine Symbols.
Tenets of Faith
Individual aspects of the Progenitor generally maintain whatever customs they had and followed in life, and expect their descendants to do the same, though some have been known to change the rules for interacting with them based on what they believe. As a general rule, most souls that reside in the Progenitor wish for their graves to be maintained and their bodies to be properly disposed of.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
The Progenitor's goals change depending on how the individual manifestations feel about their descendants, though most wish to help and guide them, or preserve their own legacy by acting through The Progenitor.
