Rhaxium, Watcher in the Night

Rhaxium is the god of the forgotten. He watches over those who have been left behind by life's struggles, without anyone else left to care for them. Rhaxium is a subtle god, and he does not like to make his presence known. As such, few have his true form, though he is described as appearing as a tall figure with a long black cloak wrapped around him. Rhazium's face never seems to be clearly visible, and the few who have seen it only report a blurry memory and vaguely male features.   When the world was first made Rhaxium took the leftover matter than had been forgotten and discarded and used it to create the moon. Similarly he sees it as his mission to watch over those who have been left behind and forgotten. Rhaxium takes a more direct interest in the lives of mortals than any of the other Full Deities, but he has fewer followers than any of the other as he endeavors to draw as little attention to himself as possible. Instead he is the one who receives the prayer sent out by desperate individuals with no one left to turn to, and he does so quickly and quietly. Anonymous donations delivered in the night, a cloud passing over the moon keeping someone hidden from a pursuer, a books falls of the shelf that happens to contain exactly the information a scholar was looking for. These are the methods Rhaxium uses to intervene. Rhaxium does this with a purpose in mind, his goal is to help those falling to desperation, and ensure that they do not end up turning to evil. The beggar might have turned to theft without the gift, the soldier would have to kill several people if they were found, and the scholar's frustration at the delays in his research might end up taking his anger out on his family. The people Rhaxium helps are not necessarily the most deserving of his help, but they are those who would become far worse without it. Though Rhaxium also does not wish for any mortal to become dependent on the gods, and as such, uses his influence to cloud the memories of those he helps. He works to ensure that they believe they succeeded through their own merits, and that they have no need to turn to darker paths, morally speaking.   Due to his nature, dedicated followers of Rhaxium are rare, especially on the surface. A number of Half-Orcs and Tieflings follow Rhaxium, as their nature frequently leaves them ostracized in society and potentially pushed in the direction of evil. Similarly, there are also a few who live below the clouds, such as the Drow and Duergar, who follow Rhaxium, as many of them feel they have been left behind by surface dwellers, and feel the need for his influence to keep them from falling prey to the insidious thoughts commonly brought about by life in the Sunken Lands. These associations mean that many on the surface have somewhat of a sour viewpoint on Rhaxium, and see him as associated with the evil he tries to keep people from.   Rhaxium's church is also a secretive group. They do not openly worship their god, and instead choose to emulate his work of helping people in secret. The church itself has specific rules regarding who is allowed to join. They look for those who have experienced true desperation, and wish for a new chance at life, those who can truly understand the importance of their work. Those who choose to do say may join the church, and start a new life helping others. Those who do not join are given another option, have as many of their memories erased as they wish, so they can continue living without the burdens that made them desperate in the first place.
