Ilios, The King of All Kings

Ilios is the god of the sun, law, and nobility. He takes the form of an Angelic knight in glowing radiant armor, surrounded by an almost blinding light. Ilios is a strict deity, demanding absolute obedience from his followers. He sees himself as destined to become king of all gods, and has ordered his followers to go on several crusades in his name. Ilios leads a group of Lesser Deities called the Pantheon of Order.   Ilios is a god of nobility, and believes that nobles have an important role in serving as the guiding light to direct society along the correct path, away from savagery and chaos. To Ilios the priesthood and the nobility are intimately connected, with the Church of the Guiding Radiance serving as an extension of the nobility and many noble lines that follow Ilios choosing to send their children to become members of the Church if they have no need for more heirs. Ilios sees the need for order as absolute above all other things, and although he is not malicious, he does encourage his followers to aggressively root out dissenters, and expects those of common birth to display complete obedience to their rulers. Followers of Ilios are also expected to actively spread his worship to as many as possible. They believe that his was is the only way to protect the world, and that following any other god is only serving the further the goals of chaos. This does not necessarily mean outright war against all other faiths, but it does frequently lead to conflict between followers of Ilios and followers of other gods. Ilios also has a large focus on cities, encouraging grand works to demonstrate the power of civilization.   Followers of Ilios come from many different ancestries. The largest portion are from humans and halflings, with elves and gnomes making up a smaller percentage of the overall following, but are still a relevant part of the community. Dwarves respect for tradition tends to fit in well with the orderly society Ilios strives for, but the significant number of dwarves who live a more subterranean focused life, makes a god of the sun less appealing. Catfolk and Lizardfolk tend to live more tribal lives, that do not really meld with the city focused aspects of Ilios's worship. Tengu and Ratfolk also both display a more chaotic nature and a tendency to travel, which also both tend to differe from Ilios's ideology. As a result a significant portion of the followers of Ilios tend to view the more animalistic races as savages, calling them "Beastbloods", and thinking of them as in need of enlightenment. This tendency is even stronger when it comes to Orcs and Goblinoids, who are viewed as barely more than monsters that need to be brought under control, usually by either death or slavery. Most devout followers of Ilios are also nobles. Common citizens who live under Ilios worshiping nobles are generally made to abide by the laws of Ilios, but are usually allowed to follow one of the gods who serves under Ilios as befitting to their station, if they do not choose to directly follow Ilios himself.

Tenets of Faith

Ilios dictates that for society to flourish order must be established, and each must understand and embrace their place as one of the "Five True Callings". Each calling is required to serve all callings above them.   The first calling is the king, which stands at the top of society. The king reigns supreme and their word is law. All must follow the laws of the king as the king is the chosen representative of Ilios himself. To defy a direct order from the king is the most severe of crimes, as to do so is to defy Ilios himself. In turn the king is responsible for guiding his people to glory and fortune. He is to ensure that his people are protected, that justice is enforced, and is to promote the understanding of Ilios's teachings on a grand scale, sending out missionaries and crusades as needed.   The second calling is the nobility. The nobility are to serves as extensions of the king. They are to provide assistance as needed, whether it be as an advisor or as an administrator of the king's lands. The nobility are also to serve as the clergy, and are instructed to teach the people of the glory or Ilios and ensure they follow his teachings.    The third calling is the military. Soldiers are charged with defending their kingdoms and enforcing the laws put in place by the callings above them. They are the protectors of order and responsible for maintaining what the higher callings put in place.   The fourth calling is the worker. The majority of people fall into this category as it makes up most of the jobs that the average person would work. Farmer, baker, butcher, craftsman, and merchant are all examples of this calling. Their task is to provide for and accept the guidance of the higher callings. Their role is one of loyalty and obedience and shall be rewarded with safety and stability.   The fifth and final calling is that of the slave. This is the calling for those deemed unworthy of any other calling, or who have tried to fight against Ilios. This calling is one of punishment, and followers of Ilios believe the slaves role is to toil and suffer while they wait for a chance at redemption in their next life.

Holidays

There are four main holidays celebrated by worshippers of Ilios. The first is Kingsday, celebrated on the 30th of Springsend. This day is for honoring the king for leading the people, and the recalling the great deeds of past kings. The next holiday is Noblesday on the 30th of Summersend, where the nobility are honored for their work in ensuring the king's influence is felt all throughout the land. The next holiday is Soldiersday on the 30th of Fallsend, where soldiers are honored for their sacrifices made to protect others. The final holiday is Commonday on the 30th of Wintersend, a day where all three of the other callings are honored, as well as the common folk of the Worker's Calling, and people gather to celebrate a new year under the guidance of Ilios.
