Azaquya, Guardian of the Skies

The Protector of All, Guardian of the Skies, The Dead Goddess

Azaquya was the goddess of the sky, and the free-spirited protector of all who placed the atmosphere around the world during its creation to protect it from the dangers of space. She was known for having many forms, each representing a different flying creature. Her forms included a majestic rainbow colored dragon, a winged serpent with golden scales, a great bird that rode the storms, and a large butterfly that appears in dreams. Azaquya desired the protection of beauty and the world, and encouraged her follows to explore and learn. Unfortunately, Azaquya was killed during the Great Sundering, leaving her followers scattered and directionless. Some strive to uphold their Goddesses ideals and work to protect what remains of the world, while others have grown bitter and angry, and wish to avenge their goddess by punishing those they believe are responsible for her death.   Azaquya is responsible for the creation of many of the creatures that fill the skies. This includes birds, flying insects, and even dragons. Mortal lifeforms such as the Tengu and Serpentfolk also were creations of Azaquya, though when she died they lost their ability to fly as it was connected to their worship of her, and they did not have the same innate power as the dragons to maintain they flight without her. Azaquya's main divine servants were the Couatl, though a number of particularly dedicated dragons were also granted some measure of divinity and served under her.   Azaquya may be dead, but her worship has not ended. Many of her sentient creations still worship her today, and hope that one day she can be restored. Some followers of Azaquya are even able to manifest the powers of a cleric, although they are exceedingly rare.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The most common symbol of Azaquya is a winged serpent with its tail in its mouth, coiling around the world. This is intended to represent her devotion to protecting the world. Each of her different forms is also represented as a symbol, usually engraved into some kind of medallion with a different form on it used by the different races who worship her.

Tenets of Faith

Followers of Azaquya are expected to protect others and the world around them. This especially applies to things of beauty such as artwork and places in nature. Followers are also expected to travel for at least part of their lives to gain a better understanding of the world and why they should protect it. Other than those two things Azaquya was a deity who encouraged her followers to go about following her in their own way, and many chose to do so by creating things of beauty, rather than just serving as a guardian.
