Ankhny Khaan
The flightless souls of the first mortals wandered the Great Desert, restless and hungry. Ankhny Khaan, in his wisdom and mercy, dove to earth and stirred the sands with his wings, bringing forth grass and forb to feed his children.Ankhny Khaan (Ikhtali: First King), or the Eagle King, is the creator god of the Ikhtali people. He is believed to be the ancestor of all who are born under open skies, and said to take the form of a golden eagle. Mortals are said to have flightless souls, bound to the earth until they die and are reborn as birds. Some see Ankhny Khaan as another face of Kirkos, of the Court of Eight, but most of the Flightless will vehemently deny any connection.
Names
Native Ikhtali worshipers refer to their god exclusively by the title Ankhny Khaan, but believe he has a personal name that is both unpronounceable and unknowable to mortals. Ankhny Khaan is said to reveal this name to flightless souls when they are reborn as birds. Outsiders to the religion often refer to Ankhny Khaan as the Eagle King. This is done to avoid confusion when translating into other tongues, where the deity's Ikhtali title might be confused for that of a mortal monarch.Attributes
Ankhny Khaan, as the ancestor of all, is believed to be omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent.Omniscience
Ankhny Khaan is all-knowing. The earth-bound souls of the Flightless are heavy, but thoughts and emotions are light enough to be carried on the wind. As the ancestor of all, Ankhny Khaan can differentiate between all of his descendants and determine the source of all he hears.Omnipresence
Ankhny Khaan is everywhere at once. He may take the form of an eagle, or he may choose not to reveal himself to mortals. Flightless souls believe the only place beyond Ankhny Khaan's reach is underground.Omnipotence
Ankhny Khaan is all-powerful. He may create or destroy any aspect of anything beneath the open skies at will. He does not control the actions of mortals, but rules over them as a king or parent. The Gifts of Ankhny Khaan
Ankhny Khaan is said to have gifted the five elements of life to mortals at the time of their creation. He stirred the dust of the earth to form the body. He captured the wind to form breath. He drew water from the river to create blood. He distilled his thoughts and wisdom to create soul. When the shape of the mortals was complete, he spoke to each a name. The days of the week in the Ikhtali Calendar are named for the elements of life:Day | Meaning |
