The
Ikhtali Calendar is a lunisolar calendar used in the
Ikhtal Empire. It is recognized, but not used by the nations of the Summerlands, which use the
Shairin Calendar. The year consists of twelve months of thirty days each.
The Itkhali date is written Month, Day, Era, Year (ex. Tuulai 3, Alagos 115).
Years
The Ikhtali calendar changes era names upon imperial succession. The first year of an era starts immediately upon a ruler's ascension, and ends on 30 Sarlag. Subsequent years follow the standard calendar year, beginning in Bürged and ending in Sarlag. As such, years in which imperial rule changes bear two names (ex. 484 SF is known as both Arad 181 and Alagos 1).
Era names are always derived from the noun-stem of the emperor or empress's name.

Months
The months of the year are named for the rising constellations which appear in the sky during that cycle of the moon. Each month begins with the new moon and ends on the final night of the waning crescent moon. Unlike the
Shairin Calendar, which begins with the rising of the Ram constellation, the Ikhtali calendar begins two months later, under the Eagle.
