House Arano
Wardens of the Fringe, Architects of Unity
On the farthest edge of the Sphere, where astral paths fade and the great powers see only wilderness, House Arano rose not from ancient lineage or divine right, but from the need for order in chaos. A house forged in exile and shaped by necessity, it is the guiding heart of the Aurigan Coalition—a dynasty defined by its resilience, humility, and unshakable commitment to the ideal of shared strength.
Founded just two centuries ago by Brys Arano, a former League of Stars magistrate who fled the collapse of central authority, House Arano took root among scattered frontier provinces abandoned by the Great Houses. With no armies to command and no throne to claim, Brys offered protection through diplomacy, cooperation, and the formation of a compact between equals—the earliest foundation of the Coalition itself. From these modest beginnings, House Arano grew to embody the principles it once used to survive: unity, autonomy, and justice without tyranny.
House Arano is considered a Lesser House in the political hierarchy of the Sphere. While it holds sovereign rule over the Aurigan Coalition, a relatively small and frontier-bound realm, House Arano does not command the vast magical, economic, or military resources that define the Great Houses such as House Davion, Kurita, Liao, Steiner, or Marik. It lacks the ancient lineage, influence across multiple realms, and widespread political recognition required to be formally counted among them.
That said, House Arano is unique among Lesser Houses in that it rules as a sovereign monarchy within the borders of an independent state. It is respected in some circles for its principled leadership and admired for unifying a fractured region—but to the Great Houses, it remains a minor power, more a regional actor than a true peer.
Headquartered in the Skyhold of Mechduron, built atop the remnants of a fallen League of Stars relay tower, the house has always held a dual identity: noble stewards of tradition, and pragmatists attuned to the rough edges of frontier life. They are known for their preference for negotiation over conquest, charters over chains, and a deep cultural memory of what happens when power goes unchallenged.
Each successive ruler of House Arano has added their voice to this evolving legacy, but none more boldly than High Lord Tamati Arano II. Under his reign, the house transitioned from respected diplomats to recognized sovereigns of the Coalition. His policies encouraged unity among the provinces, brought formal structure to the Aurigan military, and established firm (if tense) boundaries with the Great Houses. Yet his ambitions for reform, and for a more inclusive ruling council, sowed seeds of unrest—especially among the old-guard nobility.
Now, with his death and the imminent coronation of his daughter, Lady Kamea Arano, the future of the house hangs in the balance. House Arano is at once the pillar of the Coalition and its most vulnerable point, caught between loyalists who believe in its vision and rivals who fear its reformist zeal. House Arano is not the oldest, nor the wealthiest, nor the strongest—but it is the soul of the Coalition.
And now, that soul is under siege.
