Clan Seabhac

From the high winds, all paths are clear

High in the craggy plateaus and knife-edged ridgelines of the northernmost marches, where the clouds brush the stone and the sky seems just within reach, soars the sharpest and most visionary of the northern Clans — Clan Seabhac, known to outsiders as Clan Falcon. Of all the Clans, they are the least understood, and perhaps the most feared — not for numbers or strength, but for their unnerving clarity of purpose.   To be Seabhac is to see beyond the immediate — to weigh a future unseen, to strike not for glory, but for the moment when one blow changes everything. They are watchers, hunters, and prophets, their druids trained in sky-reading and windcasting, their warriors as likely to be perched on a high outcropping for days as to be rushing down a pass with steel in hand. The lands they call home are high, harsh, and breathtaking — sheer cliffs that drop into mists, broken mesas ringed by thunderclouds, and vast alpine stretches where the air is so thin and clean that only the fiercest herbs and goats can thrive. Homes cling to the edges of stone, built from pale wood and grey slate, their rooftops shaped like wings, angled against the wind. Rope bridges span vast drops, and wind-towers stand like fingers raised to the sky, used to send long-range signals across the cliffs with mirrors and flares.   Mobility is sacred to Clan Seabhac. Their warriors train from youth to climb, leap, glide, and fight while in motion. Some even wear ceremonial wing-cloaks during rites of adulthood, jumping from ledges and trusting the winds to guide them to safety. Scouts use trained falcons and windrunes to survey enemy positions from impossible vantage points, relaying plans long before battle ever begins. Though they are not as populous as Faolán nor as rooted as Arthfael, Seabhac’s druids are respected — and sometimes feared — by all the Clans, for they speak of dreams and omens with unsettling accuracy. They are led not only by warbands but by The Aerach-Tairngire, the “Sky-Sighted,” whose oracles walk barefoot across high stones and speak with voices that sound like stormwinds through narrow passes.   Clan Seabhac maintains a long-standing bond with Clan Faolán, often trading scouts, messengers, and windcharmers. With Clan Arthfael, they maintain a respectful distance. With the Kaldurreach, there is bitter blood, stemming from the Siege of Ironsky Crag, where a Seabhac aerie was sacked by raiders who slew dreamseers in their trance.   Clan Seabhac is a mystery to the Great Houses — elusive, rarely engaged directly, but always present when least expected. Their warriors are few, but never misplaced. Their visions, it is said, have shaped more than one turning point in the Sphere’s history — and may again. They do not fly blindly. They do not strike without sight. They are Seabhac, and they see what others cannot.
“Ask yourself why the falcon strikes only once. Then ask if you’ll be alive when it does.” — Druid Skaila of the Mirror Aerie
Clan Seabhac Pronunciation: /ˈshah-vock/ → SHAH-vock “Seabh” uses the Irish “bh” = “v”; “ac” ends in a crisp “-ock.”
