Clan Faolán
Where one wolf falls, the pack remains
Between the frost-etched peaks of the Kaldurreach to the north and the stoic ridges of Clan Arthfael to the east, a fierce and mobile people roam the windswept highlands and tangled pinewoods of the far northwestern Sphere. Known to outsiders as Clan Wolf, but called by their true name Clan Faolán, they are the most numerous of the Clans — and perhaps the most tightly knit.
Faolán, in the ancient tongue, means little wolf, but there is nothing small about the heart of this people. Their culture is founded not on solitude or raw strength, but on unity, the strength of many moving as one. Every Faolán warrior fights as part of a greater whole, just as every druid sings in harmony with wind and stone. Where Clan Sgàthach walks in silence and Clan Arthfael endures in stillness, Clan Faolán runs together, howling, swift and sure. Their homeland is a land of rolling pine-covered hills, sharp escarpments, and fast rivers that cut through gorges like claw marks in stone. Herds of hardy staghorn goats and shaggy elk roam the high pastures, hunted and herded alike. Faolán settlements are semi-nomadic, built in moveable wood and stone, shifting seasonally with the needs of the pack. These are not towns as others know them — they are hearth-circles, centered around longhalls and fire circles, where every member, from child to chieftain, has a place in the tale.
Warriors of Clan Faolán are among the most tactically adept in the Sphere, known for hit-and-fade tactics, sudden encirclements, and complex maneuvers executed with preternatural cohesion. Their scouts are legendary, and their druids are often pathfinders and loreweavers, guiding warbands with wind-charms and ancestor-bound runes. Among the Clans, Faolán maintains strong ties with Clan Seabhac, with whom they often trade and train, and a cautious mutual respect with Clan Arthfael, though border frictions are frequent. Their relationship with the Kaldurreach, however, is tense and blood-drawn. The reaving raids from the north, both recent and remembered, have left many cairns along Faolán’s northern hills — and the wolves do not forget the scent of those who drew blood. To the Great Houses, Clan Faolán remains an elusive but dangerous presence — too swift to pin down, too loyal to betray themselves, and too proud to kneel. They have no High King. They have only the Pack, and it has many voices.
They are not ruled by one. They are not guided by fear. They are Faolán, and they remember who they run beside.
“Kill the scout, and a dozen more rise. Kill the lead wolf, and the pack moves faster.” — Combine commander, after abandoning a campaign in the Faolán Marches
